DD> Maybe. For background - I have an 1800+ selection playlist for my
DD> WinAmp. And an Aluratec Internet Radio that also does FM, USB, Aux In,
DD> etc. The Aluratec is in the bedroom and serves as my white noise
DD> generator as well as an entertainment source when I am awake and aware.

SD> I lost many of my MP3s in a butterfinger accident. I'm waiting until I

SD> codec to MP3 but it makes HUGE files...the price to pay for quality).

AFAICS WAV and FLAC are near enough in size as makes no never minds. If my
stuff isn't in MP3 or Ogg Vorbis (when I am streaming my Jazz music on the
Interweb) I'd not know what to do. I convert FLAC and MP3 above 128 bit to 128
bit MP3 --- takes less room and I have such damaged hearing that I cannot hear
any difference anyway. 128 *is* CD quality as it is, though.

DD> So, are you in the millwright department or the IT help desk? I thought
DD> it was the latter - but, what you describe here sound more like
DD> millwright duties. Or have I grasped the mooky end of the stick again?

SD> Strictly IT and even at that the duties are limited. That means I
SD> don't do physical wiring anymore as we have a contractor for that. I
SD> don't even fix cable ends; we just toss the cable and buy more.

SD> As an example, one of my main jobs is keeping the Zebra printers
SD> running. Zebra printers, for those that don't know, are large specialty
SD> printers designed to print large labels. They are notoriously finicky
SD> and cause problems. Each assembly line station that needs these
SD> printers have two in case one goes down. However, as is often the
SD> case, the way the printers are set up, when one goes down, the other
SD> one doesn't always like to pick up the slack.

Be glad you don't work for the State of Illinois - they still have some
page-at-a-time dot matrix printers that use tractor-feed green bar paper. I'll
bet those are a *real treat* to keep fed and happy. Bv)=

SD> When that happens, that's a "line down" condition and we literally have
SD> to beat feet (no running, of course, but we do have a trike we can use)
SD> to that line and fix it.

Line stoppers are always a bitch in factory environment. The problem is that
not only does that line stop - but it cascades.

SD> There are a million other minor fires we have to put out constantly.
SD> One of the things we do is set up computers using the company's
SD> approved image build of Windows 7. We also configure cell phones for
SD> those employees that need them (nothing difficult, all are Samsung flip
 SD> phones).

My main cell phone is an A-707 Samsung flip phone. Rock solid and pretty much
bullet-proof. And, since it's a flip - no butt dials. Bv)=

SD> Of course, there's more, but I'm not at liberty to discuss it.

You mean if you told us someone would have to die? Maybe you?

DD> That can only be good for you. And less and less hassle as you get your
DD> body inured to it. Don't they let you zip about the facility in one of
 DD> their nice Gator vehicles?

SD> Oh no. We're not high enough in rank to get that. Even if we did have
SD> one, we have to go through Gator driving training every six months.
SD> From what I'm told, we're going to do that anyway, as well as fall
SD> prevention since we do go up on scissor lifts to work on equipment
SD> racks in very odd places, like 100' up in the ceiling.

Well if they teach you how to do it "the company way" they certainly ought to
let you practice.

DD> A job is something you do for money that you wouldn't do except for the
DD> money. What your dad wants is a position. Bv)=

SD> That is true. He wants a reason to get up and do one of the top three
SD> things he loves to do in life every day. :D Mom and I tease him about
SD> it but he is genuinely interested in a position, so I will inquire into
SD> it for him. It can't hurt!

True dat. Might not help - but you never know until you ask.

Title: Alligator Sauce Piquante - Picnic
 Categories: Loo, Exotics, Reptile
      Yield: 2 Servings

      1 lb Alligator cutlets
2 c Buttermilk or soured milk
    1/2 c Cornmeal
    1/2 ts Thyme
           Salt & Pepper
           Fat for frying
10 oz Can Milder Ro*Tel Chopped
           - Tomatoes
      1 Bay leaf; opt
    1/2 ts Thyme
    1/2 ts Marjoram or oregano
    1/2 ts Garlic powder
    1/2 ts Cajun seasoning (Emeril's
           - or other) *
      1 cl Garlic mashed
           Tabasco sauce, tt (UDD
           - would use Trappey's)

  * Tony Chachere's (green can) works well - UDD

Soak alligator cutlets in milk for at least 4 hr. Drain and
dredge in cornmeal that has been seasoned with thyme, salt,
  and pepper.

Heat fat and fry cutlets until done and crisp on both sides.

Meanwhile, bring Ro-Tel tomatoes and bay leaf to a boil.
Add remaining ingredients. Reduce by about 1/3, and season
  with Tabasco to taste.

Drain cutlets on paper towels and then put on a platter.
  Cover with sauce and serve.

It was dark when I cooked this, so the identities and
amounts of herbs are open to some question.
