====================================================================
Hi Sean,

RH> That's a very good start! When people tell you to take a hike, you will
RH> do so for your health, as well as work.

SD> Things are going to get busier for me. Our second-shift guy just put
SD> in a week's (one week) notice, so I have three days to try to get
SD> trained to take over that shift for two weeks until we get a new
SD> person in and trained. So far so good but I am leaning heavily on my
SD> own experience right now in

Busier'n a one eyed cat watching two mouseholes? Keeps you off the
streets at night. (G)

SD> fixing things. Hey, this will be just in time for Christmas too for
SD> the paycheck, so I'm not complaining too loudly. Besides, everyone
SD> else has families that I work with. Felix will understand (maybe) if
SD> I'm working late and my parents will keep an eye on him for me. A
SD> perfect opportunity to try to start saving again.

Too bad Felix can't cook but you would probably get tired of birds
and/or fish all the time. (G)

SD> Walked about fifteen miles today. The thing is, you don't -realize-
SD> you're walking that much. You have to go to get the job done and that
 SD> means
SD> walking everywhere. The good thing is that besides my neuropathy, my
SD> feet, knees, and back haven't hurt badly in quite some time. I did
SD> discover the teeny, tiny elevator we have to get our equipment
 SD> upstairs. If you're
SD> claustrophobic, you should take the stairs.

I used to, would take the elevator automatically but have been taking
the stairs a lot more recently.

RH> I'm trying to keep my portions reasonable. Easier said, than done with
 RH> some meals.

SD> Yeah. When I get home at night, I'm ready to eat just about anything
SD> and it's hard to resist trying to eat a bunch of food. But I'm

I know, I usually don't eat much, if anything, after supper now. Had an
early call for the Christmas choir tonight so I had a late lunch, a
small "hold me over" (mostly protein) before the concert and a yogurt
when I got home.

SD> However, once I can start cooking, I think I can batch cook and have a
SD> good, nutritious meal when I get home since well, I don't think Felix
SD> will really want to cook for me. :)

No, cats get distracted by laser pointers too easy to make good cooks.

RH> Having a functioning kitchen helps. We're in the process of buying a
RH> small camper--what "sold" us on the one we're getting, is that it has a
RH> decent sized work area in the kitchen.

SD> I've read that. I'd love to get a 16' Scamp trailer. Those are blown
SD> out of a single piece of fiberglass making them quite strong but very
SD> light; even the Pathfinder could pull it easily without effort. New,
SD> they're about $20,000 or so the last time I checked, but it'd be an
SD> investment for me. Note this would be to travel with...not to live in.
 SD> :D

We're planning on doing some recreational trips, not just "have to"
ones. Two burners will be a challenge but it also has a
microwave/convection oven. If we hook up to AC power, we can also use
our induction hot plate.

RH> Every step helps. Plus a good break room that's condusive to bringing
RH> meals. If you have a decent freezer, you can make several week's worth
RH> of meals over the week end. Makes meal time easy if you can warm up
RH> something home cooked--you know what went into it.

SD> Today, they had a huge lunch catered for the entire factory.
SD> Unfortunately, I could not stop to take a lunch until they were
SD> putting everything away, so for my fellow tech and myself, I grabbed
SD> some turkey, ham, creamed corn, and mashed potatoes with gravy. Lots
SD> of carbs but I definitely burned them off. It was hectic today.

You got some protein, better than all carbs.

RH> Soounds good; I've heard of Red Wing shoes but never bought any. I've
RH> got a bit of neuropathy in one foot, from a break 10 years ago that
RH> took a long time to heal. (What didn't help was rebreaking in the same
RH> spot 6 months later.) You might want to consider buying another pair of
RH> the shoes so you can alternate days with them.

SD> That is what the saleslady at Red Wings and my mom recommended. I can
SD> get another pair of orthotics from the VA so I don't have to switch
SD> them out as often. The shoes are actually kinda heavy but with these

Steve's experience with getting orthotics thru the VA was less than
great. I think it took 6+ months for it to get straightened out. He
still can't be on his feet overly long.

SD> shoes on, I have excellent traction and they would be good enough to
SD> go hiking or something in, but I prefer boots for that as going over
SD> uneven terrain isn't as easy for me as it once was.

I'd agree, boots would be better for uneven ground.

RH> No, keep the bacon--it adds protein. (G)

SD> My mom uses Bragg's Liquid Aminos which tastes like soy sauce but has
SD> very, very little salt in it. It's very good and pretty cheap from
SD> what I can tell, so I will start using that in my own cooking.

I've heard of it, never tried it tho. Might be worth checking into tho.

SD> This recipe looks rather tasty:

SD> Title: Black Bean Chili Cobbler [America]
 SD> Categories: Vegetable, Cheese/eggs
 SD> Yield: 6 Servings

 SD> 2 ea Cans whole tomatoes (15oz)
 SD> -no salt added, undrained
SD> 15 oz Can black or kidney beans
 SD> -drained, rinsed
SD> 11 oz Can whole kernel corn
 SD> -or Mexicali corn; drained
SD> 1 sm Onion; finely chopped
 SD> 2/3 c Cornmeal plus
SD> 2 tb Cornmeal (keep divided)

Can't do it for us, the corn and corn meal rule it out. Yes, it does
look good, otherwise.

Catch you later,
