My favourite non-fish sushi. Well, maybe tied with that omelette
thing, which is also pretty tasty.

Roslind was shopping today and picked up large jar of pork floss,
something new for Yellowknife supermarkets. I tasted a pinch a
moment ago; it tastes just how I thought it would. Wonderful!

That's actually filial interest.

Not a pleasant thought. Yesterday a young customer called me Mr.
Weller and then a delivery guy addressed me as Sir. I was not
pleased.

Although I don't generally break fast immediately upon rising, a
massive brunch later on with lots of tasty choices is always a
welcome thing. That sounds heavenly.

It is hard to train them to be vegan. They are most resistant.

Sato, who ran the old time steakhouse that evolved into that trendy
multicultural place Fuegos where we had a drink and a snack out on
the bar's deck, made that mistake twice and had to come out of
retirement twice to salvage what was essentially his retirement
fund. The initial deposit is never enough to cover the damage or the
loss of reputation. I said to him the second time that at least he
got a free second floor bar on the take back and he replied that no
he hadn't as there were contractors' liens on the building, so he
did in fact pay for the renovations himself.

He finally found someone with enough of a track record and enough
capital to raise a mortgage to buy him out cleanly. The closing
date is next month but the new guys are already running the bar up
stairs while Sato runs the restaurant downstairs. Of course being
an all cash sale he settled for a lot less money than last time but
it's real money this time,

In other local restaurant news ...

The Korean place is now open in one of Pierre's old places. I
haven't been yet as I'm waiting for them to get settled and for the
opening month crowds to thin a bit but I hear good things about
them.

In chatting with some contractors I learned that the ex-KFC that
will re-open soon as Lenny's Burgers, which is how the grandfather
of the restaurant family started up, will have a nicely renovated
sitdown area which  will have a liquor licence.  Imagine copycat KFC
chicken in a nice bar setting with a wine list!

We also have a new brewpub up and running (the last one failed years
ago because the beer quality was very inconsistent). It got off to a
late start as they wanted to be open by June 1 when the weather is
hot and all the university kids are home for the summer but ran into
all sorts of delays and bureaucratic red tape. The equipment
supplier has an excellent reputation globally and has several
installations going in British Columbia and Alberta but somebody in
the NWT Dept of Public Safety and the city Dept of Health became
upset as the equipment had never been certified by the Canadian
Standards Association, That caused an 8 week delay and several
thousand dollars. Last month they did a soft opening selling other
people's draft but they finally are brewing their own beer. A
co-worker's son reports that both the beer and the food is
excellent. I will definitely be checking them out soon.
