ML> Nothing too outlandish the last couple months, but
ML> looking back, yeah, I've had a bunch of peculiar
ML> things from fried moth larvae (this grossed out Carol
ML> Bryant) to Blind Robins (look it up - this grossed out
ML> Dave the Sac) to bird's nest soup. I'm sort of pleased
ML> that in most lists of top bizarre foods I've at least
 ML> tasted a majority.

You do have quite the track record there... ;)

ML> The ones that tend to gross ME out are things that are
ML> pretty mainstream - dill, zucchini, blue cheese.

All of which I have no problem with... ;)

ML> I'll have to pay more attention. Looks like the
ML> opportunity for an inexpensive play-with-your-food
ML> session. My usual thing with marshmallows is to pop
ML> them in the nuker and watch them puff up grotesquely
ML> and then shrink into brown marshmallow raisins, at
ML> which point I can stop the process and eat them or
ML> continue until they burst into flame.

I wonder if the old ones would have done that... of course, they were
pre-microwave, so it's totally a moot speculation...

 > ML> The immediate response followed by the measured

 > As I've noticed... But there is more context in the reports, usually. :)
ML> But sometimes the details have been mushified in my
ML> brain by the time I get around to doing the detailed
ML> version. And there's the issue of faulty recordkeeping
ML> - for example, the Alaska report long promised turns
ML> out to have had notes in two files with different
ML> months with some events noted twice, made up for by
ML> some being not noted at all. Thus begins the decline
ML> of a decent mind. Sometime when there's a lull in the
ML> activity here I might start posting some of that.

Ah, well... The old grey matter aint what it useta be... :) Sounds
like you need to get the reports written before you totally lose
them.... ;)

ML> Maybe, but what shelter or soup kitchen would accept
ML> an opened, partially used can?

One that one had some sort of ties with, maybe...? ;)

 > Oh. Yeah... I can see how that would happen... Oh, well... hard to

ML> Not exactly mixed - as occasionally happens, she said
ML> what I later tumbled to was the exact opposite of what
ML> she was thinking. The suggestion is made that this is
ML> some kind of sophomoric reverse psychology, make him
ML> beg and then he'll really want it sort of thing. I've
ML> seen it several times, and it really makes it hard to
ML> figure out the "no means no" thing, and I don't envy
ML> the young 'uns these days.

It's the sort of thing that is almost guaranteed to backfire... or at
least not have any sort of guarantee of working out... Only place I can
see it likely to be at all workable is within a relationship that
already has enough give-and-take in it to be able to do that sort of
thing as a sort of play, and understood as that by both players... with
some sort of specific clues that that is the case, as well...

 > ML> Yeah, and I'm not all that fond of nutmeg anyhow.
 > Nutmeg's fine in its place... :)
ML> I can deal with a few grains in a dessert, maybe a few more
ML> in an artfully-crafted spice mixture, but on the whole, I
 ML> can do without.

I remember it working out surprisingly well in a moussaka recipe..

ML> Interesting thinking back on my changing palate - some of
ML> the flavors I once actually tolerated well, such as dill and
ML> zucchini, I find wholly objectionable now; nutmeg has gone
ML> from a must have to a tolerable once a month if that.

I notice you didn't put blue cheese on that list... ;)

ML> So I'm at a bar, see, and I buy a shot of Wild Turkey, and
ML> they go, whoa, dude, want a chaser with that, eggnog's free,
ML> 'tis the season. So I got a cup of that - very thick, very
ML> sweet, but of egg flavor, nil, of vanilla flavor, nil - all
ML> I could detect was nutmeg. That was enough for the year,
ML> though when I'm at the United Club in Philly on Christmas
ML> Eve I bet I'll have to accept their gift of a glass of it.

Hmmm... Milk, eggwhites, and nutmeg to cover...? Did you need pills
for it...? I used to like a little eggnog in season... but it turned
out to be something that usually didn't set well, so I really limit it
now... Last year's Christmas there was a spiked one that wasn't bad,
though... :) I still didn't have a lot of it... :)
