Not as "old wave" as those who came to build the western railroads or to mine
coal in the eastern coal fields.

AFAIK. I don't think she drives so she's probably not running the kitchen at
the new Thai Kitchen II as she did at the original. Plus, she's definitely a
senior citizen - probably older than me.

Well, yeah. That's the way those guys work when they're "gaming the system" We
had a mid-level Cozy Nostril family here (NOT affiliated w/Stevie's). Quite the
shock when their names and pixtures came out in the Life Magazine article on
the Appalachin (NY) conference raided by the Federal Gendarmes. Their brother
Sam came first to work in the coal mines (as mentioned above) and sent for Tony
and Frank as soon as he had enough money laid by. And then didn't have much to
do with them after they "mobbed up". They were nice enough guys - but you
didn't want to try to compete with their jukebox or cigarette vending
businesses.

      Title: Italian Meatball Soup Rapido
 Categories: Soups, Beef, Meatballs, Beans
      Yield: 4 Servings

    1/4 c Olive oil
      1 c Frozen chopped onions
      4 cl Garlic, chopped
      1 Celery rib; halved
           - lengthwise, thin sliced
           - crosswise
      2 Carrots; halved lengthwise,
           - thin sliced crosswise
  5 1/4 c Chicken broth
  2 1/2 c Water
     20 Refrigerated or frozen
           - precooked meatballs
2 (14 oz) cans small white
           - beans; drained, rinsed
6 oz Bag baby spinach; coarse
           - chopped
    1/2 c Fine grated Parmigiano
           - Reggiano cheese
    3/4 ts Salt
    1/4 ts Black pepper

  ACCOMPANIMENT: fine grated Parmigiano-Reggiano

Parmigiano-Reggiano enriches canned broth for a quick, hot,
and truly delicious meal in a bowl.

Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a 5 to 6 quart pot over high heat
until hot but not smoking, then cook onions, garlic, celery,
and carrots, stirring occasionally, until onions are pale
golden, about 4 minutes. Stir in broth and water and bring
  to a boil, covered.

Meanwhile, heat remaining 2 tablespoons oil in a 12" heavy
skillet over high heat until hot but not smoking, then sauté
meatballs (do not thaw if frozen), turning occasionally,
until browned all over, about 3 minutes.

Add meatballs to soup along with beans and briskly simmer,
covered, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are tender
and meatballs are heated through, about 15 minutes. Stir in
spinach, cheese, salt, and pepper and simmer, uncovered,
until spinach is wilted, about 1 minute.
