Hi Dave,

We buy them at the farmer's market from time to time, definately much
better looking (and tasting) than 99.99% of what you get at the grocery
stores.

DD> Life often has the effect of interfering with routine.

Quite so, more often than what we'd care to admit at times.

DD> I must have missed the medical procedure --- I get to go today for an

Don't know how they did your check but mine was no walk in the park. Set
up, procedure and recovery took most of the day.

No, it confirmed I have a condition called primary hyperaldosteroneism.
Too much of the hormone aldosterone is being kicked out making potassium
levels run low, blood pressure run high and other side issues. For now,
it looks like medication will be the best treatment, maybe eventually,
surgery.

DD> The ultrasound tech told me that everything looked good, she saw

DD> just the tech. I'll be hearing from Dr. (mumble) in a few days -

Probably was quite a relief. My dad had a grapefruit sized aortic
aneurism removed 16 years ago. They diagnosed it on a Friday, sent him
home (an hour away) for the week end and operated on a Monday. I was
surprised they didn't hold him until surgery.

RH> and chicken/sides. We got a half grilled chicken, rice, beans and a
RH> side of fried okra for about $6. and change--chicken was seasoned with
RH> a salt, some sort of mild chili spice. It was probably one of our best
 RH> purchased road meals.

DD> Might it have been a form of pollo poblano? That's one of my favourite
DD> Mexican chicken things. I prefer mine made with strips of poblano -
DD> but ground poblano is nearly as nice.

RH> This was probably a powder sprinkled on. Deborah gave us some Tajin
RH> seasoning, a mix of chili peppers, salt and lime juice that we think
RH> may be similar. Bottle doesn't specify what kind of peppers were used
 RH> in making it tho.

DD> I just thought - when re-reading my comment above .... dried, ground
DD> poblano is rightly known as ancho chile powder. Bv)= The basis for
DD> most chilli spice mixes and many rubs.

It's one of my staples; I need to make a stop at Penzey's to replenish
my supply.

 DD> Title: Dirty Dave's Tex-Mex Rub
 DD> Categories: Rubs, Spices, Herbs
 DD> Yield: 1 batch

DD> 5 Parts hot Spanish paprika
DD> 5 Parts ground ancho chile
 DD> 5 Parts black pepper
 DD> 6 Parts garlic granules
 DD> 3 Parts onion granules
 DD> 6 Parts salt
DD> 7 Parts dried celery leaf
 DD> 7 Parts dried oregano
 DD> 7 Parts dried thyme

Looks good to me.
