=====================
Hi Steve,

RH> We're still new home owners, and enjoying that. We will be taking more
RH> trips, don't know how many long ones, but got this so we could do
RH> touristy things. I'm trying to figure out where the best place to stow a
RH> sewing machine for easy access will be.

ST> We bought out house in Anchorage in 1989. We started going outside in
ST> December of 2004, and drove the highway both directions up until April
ST> 2009. Bought another 5th wheel in Lake Havasu that spring also. Kind

We'll be taking ours various places, including up to VT this coming
summer. Might have to stop and see you sometime in AZ.

ST> of got tired of the drive, spend a week getting through Canada each
ST> direction, and it's not cheap I might add (actually cheaper to fly).
ST> Started flying back and forth starting the fall of 2009, we bought a
ST> used car the first year in Las Vegas from Enterprise and drove it down
 ST> to here in Arizona.

Beats having to tow a vehicle back and forth.

ST> I know what you mean about storage. The RV in Alaska is small than
ST> this one in Arizona. But, the one up there has more storage for some
ST> reason, and things are laid out better in the kitchen too.

One of the features that sold us on the R-pod (by Forest River) was the
size of the kitchen area. Steve is improving the storage on it--he used
to work for a boat building company so he knows his way around fitting a
tight kitchen. He's also adding more storage in otherwise wasted space
nooks and crannies.

RH> In/out of McCarrin? We've gone in/out of there a number of times while
RH> visiting our daughter and her family.

ST> Yeah. I fly in/out of McCarran, then I rent a car, one day/one way,

We've rented a car but either had it the whole trip or just long enough
to go see our other daughter (south of Phoenix).

ST> to drive back here the next day. Leave my car here and reverse the
ST> rental car in the spring. I don't do a shuttle since they leave at
ST> o'dark thirty and drop at the airport (only) around 9am. Plus the cat
ST> doesn't have a bladder big enough to hold it from 5am to 2pm
ST> comfortably until when we can check into a motel. My wife was pretty

Cats can cross their paws for quite an extended time, or our Jenny-cat
could anyway.

ST> adamant about not flying a bunch of hours per day, basically if
ST> there's more than 6 hours of flight time we spent the night mid-way if
ST> possible, and I've kept up the practice. If I was to get to the

She'd have a hard time on a flight to HI; they're 6 or more hours,
depending on where you start from. No meals either.

ST> airport, in Anchorage 2 hours before to get a taxi to the airport,
ST> check in, get through security (traveling with the cat I have to check
ST> in at the airport because of her, then her security process is a
ST> little different from the normal passenger process that I have), fly
ST> to Seattle, change planes fly to Las Vegas, get a rental car, go to
ST> the motel. It's about an 11 hour day in the plane/airport/driving
ST> around LV (still have the cat in her carrying case and I have to go to
ST> a store and buy a disposable litter box for her, I pack a little food
ST> for her in the suitcase). Then I can find a beer and something to eat
ST> before sitting down in front of the TV with a blank stare and pretend
 ST> to watch it.

IOW, quite a long day of it for both you and the cat.

RH> In one of your favorite places, I presume. Do you still go to AZ for
 RH> part of the year?

ST> I fly out of Anchorage usually the first week of November (2 years ago
ST> it was on Halloween EEK!). I go back the first week of April. The RV

We're in AZ intermittantly; this was our first trip back since 2013. We
were stationed at Fort Huachuca from 1993 to 2001 (except for a year in
Korea for Steve) so whenever we go, it's like coming home for us.

ST> in Alaska is parked on a very small piece of property that Connie and
ST> I bought about a month before she died. It's 165 road miles from
ST> Anchorage, probably 60 air miles.

A quick get away kind of place? Close enough to a river where you can
catch your own supper?

Catch you later,
Ruth
