======================
Hi Michael,

 ML> > Hopefully you're totally human by now. (G)

ML> More practical I suppose than being totally spiritual.

Probably so. (G)

ML> > I used to get bronchitis, regular as clockwork, the latter part of
ML> > January. Now it's more unpredictable when it hits but it used to be

ML> In this case unpredictability may be a good thing.

Yes, but sometimes I get it when I'd rather not. Three years ago we were
in NV and AZ for an extended time of visiting our daughters and
travelling. I got it while we were in NV, before we got to AZ so spent
most of the trip feeling miserable. Eight hours in an ER didn't help
matters, then I was it was triaged as a common cold. The doctor believed
me, not the triage paperwork.

ML> > ML> Perak, Malaysia, where the average year-round high
 ML> > ML> is 70 +- 2 and the low is 59 +- 2.
ML> > Sounds like Oahu in the winter. (G) If it was below 70, the natives
 ML> > bundled up.

ML> Heck, on Oahu, if it gets below 80, they start to shiver.

We used to joke that it ws cold if our associate pastor wore a long
sleeved shirt & senior pastor wore socks.

ML> > ML> I ought to learn and not go to Singapore and Malaysia
ML> > ML> that often, but I really do like it there.
ML> > What's the big draw there, other than Asian foods in their local
 ML> > setting?

ML> Relatively tame jungles (though Jim Thompson is said to
ML> have died within 10 miles of my destination). A culture
ML> whose modesty I appreciate (the Muslim/native mix) but
ML> that is tolerant - allowing pork and alcohol, for example,
ML> even though the vast majority do not indulge. Indonesia is
ML> too far toward the fundamentalist side, Singapore is a
ML> bit wild (though not in a wild way, any more - it was
ML> Really Wild when the Brits held the reins), but Malaysia
ML> so far seems just right.

Sounds interesting.

ML> Also, the food there is amazing.

Probably so, do they use a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables in their
cooking?

ML> > ML> The other day my friend Steven In Newton made me -
ML> > ML> of all things - a steamed chicken breast. It was
ML> > ML> actually okay, as it was very lightly brined before
ML> > ML> cooking and then steamed until the middle of the
ML> > ML> middle was just slightly pink. His wife told him
ML> > ML> that it wasn't done, but before he had a chance to
ML> > Sounds like it was done to perfection, any more and it would be dry.

ML> It was. The guy is a pretty good cook.

Better than his wife? (G)

ML> > ML> Of course she's the person who will take a rotisserie
ML> > ML> chicken from the store and bake it an additional half
 ML> > ML> hour.
 ML> > GAG!

ML> But I am polite and munch away (but tend to appropriate
ML> the dark meat and the skin.

And nobody's the wiser.

ML> > Cooking for groups means we do something with pasta every so often.
ML> It's > in various forms--this past Sunday's meal was turkey bits and
ML> pieces, > peas, green beans, chopped mushrooms and spiral pasta in a
ML> white sauce > made with stock instead of milk. Next month it might be
 ML> chicken
ML> > caccitori with spaghetti, haven't made up our minds on that. We
ML> could > also do kalua pork with rice, not pasta but still a starch.

ML> You must have become quite an expert on browner varieties
ML> of starches by now (something I will resist as long as possible).

I've been cooking with them for 40+ years, longer than the years I
cooked with the white stuff.

ML> > I think the best dish I had was some marinaded asparagus. That was
ML> in a > little restaurant in Hoercst, (outside of Frankfurt), where
 ML> Steve's
ML> > battalion was headquartered. It was a very light, lemony (but not
 ML> > strong) flavor

 ML> Sounds pretty good. Egg?

No egg that I know of. It was a side to probably some sort of schintzel.

ML> > ML> have expected. I suspect that the shuttle had come
ML> > ML> and seeing that the clients were a Chinese guy and a
ML> > ML> black woman driven right on.
ML> > Could be, you didn't match what they were expecting. Their loss.

ML> Yeah - it wasn't much of a settlement, but they
ML> eventually reimbursed my cab fare.

A bit of a help financially tho.

Catch you later,
