==================
Hi Nancy,

NB> known as the Out RH>> of Focus.
NB> NB>> Our Dodge Aries was originally named the Nomad, since it was
NB> Desert NB>> Red with a Sahara Sand interior (or something like that)
NB> and was going NB>> to be used for many long-distance trips... it
NB> ended up being called NB>> the Grapefruit, since it wasn't quite a
 NB> lemon, just close... ;)

RH> Sounds like our Focus. Did you end up not doing the trips you had
RH> thought you were going to do with it? Was it a Ruby Red grapefruit?

NB> It wasn't even that sweet... (G) It still got used for a number of
NB> the long-distance trips, until it became too unreliable... that was

We didn't even keep the Focus for 3 years. A couple of weeks after the
last payment was made, it was in the shop for the 7th time with the same
issue. Steve asked the head techinician what he'd do, if it were his
car, and got the answer "I'd trade it." so we did.

NB> the one, I think, whose manual transmission died enroute to MD,
 NB> stranding me in
NB> Mansfield PA over the weekend... and it may also have been the one

We lost a hubcap on the Pinto, bent a rim and had it hammered out in
Mansfield. That was in 1975, as they were building the new road.

NB> that sprung a gas leak enroute on another trip to MD, which needed to
 NB> be
NB> fixed whilst there... All told, it lasted about 8 years (driving it
NB> until it dropped, as is our practice) instead of the 10 or more that

We drive until they almost drop. Had the mini van (Lumina) for 14.5
years, left it in HI as we didn't want to drive cross country in August
& September with no AC.

NB> we usually get... I quit driving it after about 5 years and Richard
NB> took it over... We got my much more reliable Shadow at that point...
 NB> The last
NB> trip I took it on was for my grandmother's winter funeral... it had no
NB> heat, and a lot of things didn't work well.. My Shadow was already on
NB> order, and I remember voicing a litany of all the things that would
NB> finally work when I got my new car, all the way down and back... ;)

Keeping your mind sharp, thinking of what all had gone wrong with it?

NB> Things like heat, wipers, etc... (G) The service had been in
NB> Quarryville PA, the interment in the Naval Academy graveyard, next to
NB> her long-departed Naval Captain husband... :) My youngest brother
NB> rode home with me from the latter...

So he heard the list of gripes? Did you stop more often than usual,
having a passenger?

NB> time I RH>> tried the green slaw; it was better than the red, IMO,
NB> but I guess RH>> the red is as common as the green in that part of
 NB> NC.
NB> NB>> Red slaw being made with red cabbage...? Or is it a different
 NB> NB>> dressing...?

RH> A different dressing; the green slaw is a mayo based dressing and red
RH> is more of the oil/vinegar variety.

 NB> Ah.

Both good tho.

RH> I like the green better, especially since it's the type my MIL taught
RH> me how to make. She uses carrot, cabbage and pineapple with a sugar
RH> (stevia), s&p, mayo and pineapple juice dressing. When I was growing
RH> up, at home cole slaw was just cabbage and mayo so I was glad to get
RH> a good recipe. I don't know how many times I've made it but we always
RH> enjoy it--and come back to it after trying other recipies.

NB> I guess it's partly what you are used to, which one prefers... :) I

Basically so, yes.

NB> don't remember us having cole slaw at home, only if we happened to get

It was a once in a blue moon thing for us to have at home. Only if Mom
had bought too much cabbage for the corned beef, so maybe at best, once
a year?

NB> it somewhere else... And I tend not to bother making it, either...
NB> unless I get the cabbage (etc) already chopped, and add a bottled
 NB> dressing to it... ;)

I make it quite often as we both like it. Also, it's an easy dressing.
The hardest part is shredding the carrot and chopping the cabbage.

NB> RH>> Correct, and we got back home about 12:30 am on January 5th. I'm
NB> RH>> chipping away at both newspapers and Fido, trying to get caught
NB> up on RH>> both in a reasonable time.
NB> NB>> I sure know that routine... ;) So you were gone just a hair
 NB> over NB>> 3 weeks... :)

RH> Yes, with a lot of road time on both ends. I'm caught up with papers
RH> and Fido, just trying to get organised in other areas.

NB> Meanwhile, I'm still paddling along, working on catching up the
NB> backlog... ;) It's starting to look a little less hopeless now, with

Good; I've got to go out tonight but had a doctor's appointment this
afternoon. I'm trying to do some Fido now but have to stop to get supper
ready. We're doing leftover schnizel & baked potatoes (white for me,
sweet for Steve) with fresh, steamed (from the farmer's market) spinach.

NB> Mommy's therapies down to just two PT sessions in the week, everything
NB> else is done now... and with Lydia and Marguerite expected home the
NB> end of this week... :)

Sounds like things are going well.

Catch you later,
Ruth
