Being loath to part with money (except in vast irrational
outpourings, not unlike my way of doing things) he called
his friend, I believe the one he was referring to when he
theatrically sobbed that he could count the number of his
friends on one finger, and as she lives in West Virginia
now, she referred him to some soft-hearted associate of
hers, who fulfilled the function, and he passed his
driving test, but not with particular flying colors, and
now (according to him) he will have to report back for a
refresher test whenever he reapplies for a licence. Which
is not a bad idea for everyone, except that if this were
made a general requirement the inspectors would be swamped
with work, and many, an economically unsuitable number, of
testees would fail, putting many in a bad position when it
came to getting to work, and shuttering car dealerships
left and right. Also to me not such a bad thing, but it
would take some years to build up the public transport
system to accommodate the additional ridership.

MMMMM----------------------1/3 PLUNDERTEIG RECIPE---------------------------
           Egg; beaten
    1/2 c  Candied fruit; diced,
           - floured rolled in
           Cinnamon sugar
           Apricot preserves

    Prepare recipe of Plunderteig and chill.  Cut off a third of the chilled
  dough and roll it out 1/4" thick.  Brush the dough with beaten egg.  Cover
  it with the floured candied fruit  and sprinkle on the cinnamon sugar. Fold
  the dough in half and roll it out 1/2" thick.  Cut the filled dough in 3/4
  X 8" strips.  Slit the strips down the center with a pastry wheel, leaving
  an inch uncut at each end, and twist the strips into various designs of
  single or double rounds.  Arrange the twists on a buttered baking sheet,
  brush them with beaten egg, let them rise, covered, in a warm place until
  they double in bulk, about 1 1/2 hours.  Bake in a moderate oven, 350
  degrees F. for 20 minutes or until they are golden. Brush the hot twists
  with apricot preserves.
