We've got a number of those in our house--for sewing, computers (and
other electronics), kitchen, etc. (G) Always possible you'll find
something that'll do what you want it to.

I've got some sweaters & hats; Dad has the first pair of socks she ever
knit for him (as well as others). There are a couple of afghans that may
get passed down but I'm not sure how much other knitted stuff is still
around. She basically stopped around 25 years ago so some stuff may have
found new homes in the ensuing time.

Got a couple from a book put out by NC Agricultural Extention in 1960,
reprinted in 1069. Carteret County is one over from the one we used to
live in (Swansboro, Onslow) but we weren't far from the county line. New
Bern is a bit further inland, in Craven County.

CARTERET COOUNTY CLAM CHOWDER

1/4 lb. salt pork, cut into small cubes
2 medium sized potatoes, cubed
1 medium onion, chopped
1 qt. clams, chopped
1 qt. water
salt, pepper
corn meal dumplings (no recipe given)

Fry pork until crisp and brown. Add potaotes, onion, clams and water.
Simmer until potatoes are done, adding water to keep mixture from
becoming too dry. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Drop corn meal
dumplings on top chowder. Cover tightly and simmer 15 minutes.

NEW BERN CLAM CHOWDER

2 medium sized potatoes, chopped
1 qt boiling water
1 qt clams, chopped
1 no.2 can tomatoes
3 or 4 slices salt pork
2 onions, chopped
Worchestershire sauce
Salt and pepper

Chop potatoes and add to boiling water. boil 10 minutes. Add clams and
tomatoes. Simmer 10 minutes longer.
Fry salt pork until crisp. dice and add to chowder. Season with 1 to 2
tablespoons Worchestershire sauce. Season to taste.

I've had something similar to this but it was called tandoori chicken,
supposedly from "Joy of Cooking". Don't know how authentic but it was
good; I'm going to try it some day.
