 ML> Check out tinyurl.com/fatberg - or
ML> if you wish the presumably more rigorous reportage of
 ML> NPR, tinyurl.com/faatberg .

Checked them both... said about the same... ;)

ML> Probably the best thing to do would be to not send fat down the
ML> sink at all. Here at Annie's, she has to have the line from the
ML> second kitchen's sink snaked periodically, but then she tends to
ML> throw bacon grease and frying fat down it - when I cook I either
ML> keep the fat or wait for it to cool down and put it in the trash
ML> (which causes its own problems down the line, but the local
 ML> recycling is ineffective anyhow).

What goes down our drain is negligible fat (off the plates when rinsed,
goes down with plenty of hot water)... no disposal to tempt us to put
other stuff down it.. :) Periodically, we send baking soda down the
drain, either as part of the cleaning process, or intentionally, with
vinegar, to clear things out of the trap... Our drains stay pretty
clear all the time. :)

ML>> I did come back, and the fix held, though there are gurgly noises
ML>> coming from the drain, probably signalling a minigreaseball.
ML> And at Annie's, the same thing now. Bearing in mind that the
ML> problems are occurring in my absence, so no snide remarks, please.

Perhaps both places are fortunate that you do show up periodically to
work your cleaning magic... ;)

ML>> I thrive on leftovers. Unfortunately, the Labor Day leftovers
ML>> consist mostly of cucumber salad and tortellini salad. The
ML>> burgers and dogs and sassengers mostly went away.
NB>> They being the most in demand... and probably more accurately planned
 NB>> for... ;)
ML> I found a stash of the meats and made chili therewith. I allowed
ML> the cucumber and tortellini salads to go the way of all salads.

Too bad there wasn't any ready takers for the salads... ;)

NB>> The household I was staying with in Colorado obviously
NB>> understood the proper place of leftovers,
ML> I hope you had a good time there?

Quite a nice time there... congenial folk all around, and especially
nice to meet my new niece (by marriage) and her family. Ben and Dianne
didn't race away after the wedding, but stayed until Monday before
taking off for their honeymoon in Hawaii. They planned a family picnic
Sunday afternoon for both their families, so we had a chance to interact
in a more leisurely fashion and get to know each other better. :)

Monday, my sister drove me and Mommy to the top of Pikes Peak, which was
a nice experience... We all survived the thin air as well... ;) Then I
stayed at the hotel room with Mommy while Lydia went off for some hiking
with our sister Lesesne (Ben's mom).

Nothing particularly spectacular about the food, except that I was fed
for free for pretty much the whole time... I was invited to the
rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, for that they got someplace (OG?) to
cater at the church with lasagna and a linguini dish, soft breadsticks
and tossed salad. There was also a lunch available the next day for the
wedding party and hangers-on/family (including me and my hosts and their
other guests), fresh fruit (mostly grapes), cut up veggies and dips and
hummus and pita breads and a nice selection of wrap sandwiches. The
wedding reception was more of the same plus some croissant sandwiches
and a wider variety of fresh fruits (strawberries and blueberries along
with the grapes, maybe more), crackers and other dips including a hot
artichoke and spinach dip... And of course wedding cake, which was very
nicely done... three different flavors, a carrot cake, a poppyseed cake
with a lemon filling, and a lemon cake with a blueberry filling.
Sunday's picnic was some leftovers from the lunch and reception, with
cold cuts and rolls added; Sunday night, there was a pot-luck dinner at
the church we went to for evening service, which again (as the ladies
from that church had been responsible for the bulk of the reception) had
lots of leftovers from the reception. By that point, my brother-in-law
Phil (Ben's dad) was joking that what he Really Wanted by that point was
a nice hot venison steak... :) Have to admit, I was glad to get a hot
meal for Monday night myself.. ;)

My host family was a little scattered while I was there... school had
already started for their teenage girls, and they were off to a retreat
all day Friday.. Keith was racing off to Kansas for a different wedding
(his cousin's kid... and here he'd waited all these years for Ben to
finally get married, and had to miss it after all), and didn't get back
until late Sunday night.. The girls and Jill had responsibilities around
the wedding, so were fully involved on Saturday. Sunday, I went to
Monument with the rest of my family (including Ben's full extended
family) for church up there, and after the picnic, that church had a
joint service in the evening with the Springs church (for which they are
a daughter church plant), followed by the afore mentioned dinner. Jill
and the girls were at the Springs church for both services.. On Monday,
by the time I got back to the house, everyone had scattered for various
things, soccer practice, school meetings, etc, but I found supper, ate
my portion, and waited for people to get back.. Apparently that is a
pretty normal evening for them... (G) Friday lunch, Jill's daughter in
law picked up some burrito things from Chipotle (another first for me)
which were quite good, filling and held us well for the rest of the
evening's activities, including the (one could have expected it) much
later than planned dinner, as the rehearsal went way longer (and started
late to boot) than the participants anticipated. :)

NB>> My holding back seemed totally justified
NB>> following the one supper meal I had with them... as Keith was cleaning
NB>> up the dishes afterwards, part of the procedure was to carefully split
NB>> up the remaining fried rice into two lunch containers, and to then
NB>> divide the leftover kabob meat and veggies atop the rice in the
NB>> containers... lunch for him and his wife for the next day...
ML> Excellent practice, I should say.

And I quite agree. :)

... When in doubt...No, don't do that either.
