At Liz's fundraiser it came out that Annie's neighbor Carolyn,
best known as the state dentist of Pennsylvania a few years back,
had to go down to Hummelstown, so my issue of having to get to
Harrisburg was solved (the flight I needed to take to get out of
Williamsport was sold out, and despite my golden status, US Air
was unwilling to fix my situation without my shelling out more
money than I would be willing to expend to get to Europe, much
less just Washington). So at 10:30 Carolyn showed up at the door,
ready to transport me to parts unknown. She's a bit of a dynamo;
much of the 80-minute trip was taken up with a call from the CDC;
during the downtime we chuckled about the CDC expecting her to
talk to them while she was driving (they had scheduled the call
with the knowledge that she would be on the road). Good weather,
quick trip, and we chatted friendlily after the call. Missed our
turn to the airport, which necessitated our going through some
territory unknown to most civilians; but I got to the airport
reasonably on time. After she dropped me off, I tried to check
myself in with a machine. Some guy with an English accent stopped
me and asked (if I didn't mind) if he could check me in. Apparently
there's not much to do at the Harrisburg airport.

I spent 15 minutes at security, the longest this year to my
recollection; this airport has neither PreCheck nor an elite line
(except from 5 to 8 am), so I was thrown in with the great
unwashed. I had 15 or 20 minutes at the Susquehanna Club, where I
got to investigate the differences between Coke and Pepsi. The
commentators are right - Pepsi is sweeter and blander and gets the
nod if you are going to have just a few sips, but the more adult-
tasting Coke with more acid and bitterness and character wins out
in the long run. I ended up with a Sprite.

The guy who checked me in was doing boarding at the gate as well.
Harrisburg is not exactly the most happening of stations.

Tiny little plane, the worst of the jungle jets and particularly
unesteemed because there's no first class. No big biggie, as it's
about 90 miles and 20 min. I slept through it.
