-> -> RH> It all depends on what you're going after. Sometimes the
-> fabric tells you what it wants to be.
->
-> RH> Sometimes the fabric develops a mind of its own.
->
-> Then you have to beat it with a stick. (G)
->
Or give it what it wants. I just mailed a seriously gaudy flannel blankie
out. No pictures taken of this one; I didn't want to risk breaking the
camera. It's a mix of red and black buffalo plaid and bright orange tiger
stripe. They wanted to go together, so off they went.

-> RH> A lot of greens; it would work nicely as a guy quilt. Someone's
-> RH> granny cut this out but never sewed it together. The family put it
out
-> RH> at a yard sale for two bucks, but with no takers. Somebody spent
-> RH> dozens of hours cutting this out and they couldn't sell it for two
->  RH> dollars.
->
-> OK, I saw the postal system notification. It'll be a keep me busy
-> project. Sounds like there aren't too many traditional quilters in your
-> area or they just didn't happen to catch that yard sale.
->
Some of both. Nobody wanted to mess with the thing. The center squares
are
all dark brown. She even included the template, so it went along for the
ride. I should have sent the box of triangles too.

-> She also cut a gazillion strips, but I'll make use of those. I need to
-> stack up some baby and other emergency quilts this winter.
->
->
-> We use them in our QoV group, both as is, and cut up.
->
Good idea. This lady cut herself a bunch of baby quilt jelly rolls. Like
I
really needed more fabric, but....

-> -> Not planning to; I'll match up pairs before cutting. I'm not sure how
-> -> many different fabrics this Double 4 Patch has in it but there are 4
-> -> different alternating squares to the 4 patch blocks.
->
-> RH> You could always paper bag it and see what happens.
->
-> Not this one, it's a planned randomness.

I do some random patch work too. They're jigsawed together rather than cut
into squares.

-> RH> Mine take up an entire room too, and I still can't do my cutting in
->  RH> it.
->
-> We keep our "long arm" set up torn down most of the time as we just
-> don't have the space. Might be better since we took some furniture out
-> of the living room tho. I do my cutting in the sewing room; I've got a
-> cutting table that also collects a lot of other stuff on it. A table top
-> ironing board "lives" at one end and for lack of space in this house,
-> the table only has one side up.

I don't have a table - no space.

-> -> Was he raised in NJ? That's been the only place we've seen it on a
menu.
->
-> RH> Maplewood, in fact. Right on the nose.
->
-> So he wanted his taste of home every so often. Just like my dad, every
-> time we went out to North Tonawanda, he would have to stop at one
-> particular sausage manufacturing place and get some.
->
Yep. It's a childhood memory thing. Those and "salt sticks" -
baton-shaped
bagels with kosher salt all over them. I haven't seen them anywhere but
north Jersey.

-> RH> That makes sense, the Oranges are in that same neck of the woods.
It
-> RH> turns up in Pennsylvania too; I'm not sure how much further South
it
-> RH> goes or how far West.
->
-> Hasn't made it to NC that I know of, or as far west as TX (and beyond).
-> I think it's just a relatively localised thing.

Most likely.

-> -> shoes. He still can't use NSAIDS (because of the back) and tylenol
was
-> -> barely cutting the hurt for a while.
->
-> RH> Ow. Tylenol is good for nothing when stuff really hurts. I was
told
-> RH> an icepack works better. Aleve does better on joint pain, I'm
told,
-> RH> although it never did much for me. It can also wreck your stomach.
->  RH> There are
-> RH> stretching exercises that help feet, but with the back he might not
be
-> RH> able to do some of it.
->
-> He's doing better now that he's been in the better shoes for a few days.
-> Now he's more understanding about all the trouble I had after I broke my
-> foot 8 years ago.

Talk about learning the hard way! Putting good orthotic inserts in the
shoes would help more. I used to like Spencos, but they've gotten hard to
find.
