-> -> RH> Sometimes the fabric develops a mind of its own.
->
-> -> Then you have to beat it with a stick. (G)
->
-> RH> Or give it what it wants. I just mailed a seriously gaudy flannel
-> RH> blankie out. No pictures taken of this one; I didn't want to risk
-> RH> breaking the camera. It's a mix of red and black buffalo plaid and
-> RH> bright orange tiger stripe. They wanted to go together, so off
they
->  RH> went.
->
-> Did you pack sunglasses and a warning label in with the quilt? (G)
->
No, but I should have!

-> -> OK, I saw the postal system notification. It'll be a keep me busy
-> -> project. Sounds like there aren't too many traditional quilters in
your
-> -> area or they just didn't happen to catch that yard sale.
->
-> RH> Some of both. Nobody wanted to mess with the thing. The center
->  RH> squares are
-> RH> all dark brown. She even included the template, so it went along
for
-> RH> the ride. I should have sent the box of triangles too.
->
-> Send the triangles in another mail out. I may swap out something else
-> for the center squares, depends on what whimsey strikes me at the time I
-> put it together.

Those will probably end up in something I do. I've always wanted to do a
random granny quilt.

-> RH> Good idea. This lady cut herself a bunch of baby quilt jelly
rolls.
-> RH> Like I really needed more fabric, but....
->
-> I know, found out our preaching pastor & his wife are expecting a boy so
-> they will get a flannel strip blanket. They got a blue diaper bag for
-> #1.

And a bunch of meals brought in for Mommy or Daddy, depending on who does
the cooking?

-> -> Not this one, it's a planned randomness.
->
-> RH> I do some random patch work too. They're jigsawed together rather
-> RH> than cut into squares.
->
-> I do more of a planned randomness. Got some neat baby quilts made in HI
-> with alternating the random squares, usually with white.

Those can be really cute. I've done that before, but it's been a while.

-> -> ironing board "lives" at one end and for lack of space in this house,
-> -> the table only has one side up.
->
->  RH> I don't have a table - no space.
->
-> I've got to have a cutting table--saves my back, helps me with various
-> other projects. It had no match earring backs, jump rings, chains and
-> clasps on it earler this week as I was making necklaces. I was also
-> making a pillow to go with the Attic Windows quilt and a shirt for
-> Santa; all were on the table in various stages of work.

I just move things around and generally work on the kitchen table. I don't
make clothes so it's not bad. I can't do it on the floor any more for
certain.

-> RH> Yep. It's a childhood memory thing. Those and "salt sticks" -
->  RH> baton-shaped bagels with kosher salt all over them.  I haven't
-> seen them anywhere but north Jersey.
->
-> One of my Mennonite cook books refers to them, gives a recipe too. I'll
-> have to post it another time. The area I grew up in probably has a

I wonder if they're bagels or something else. If they're boiled and then
baked, it'll be interesting to find out how a Jewish Jersey staple ended up
in a Mennonite book.

-> chicken bbq restaurant's marinade as it's "known" food. I do it quite
-> often as it's just salt, oil, vinegar, poultry seasoning and an egg.
-> Chicken gets marinaded, then grilled with some of the marinade brushed
-> over it while cooking.

The egg leads to extra browning among other things. I don't think CT has a
real "known" food unless it's good pizza and the steamed cheeseburgers.
Those are made in only one place, really, and no one's ever exported it.
It's a restaurant thing since it requires some fairly big equipment home
cooks won't have.

-> -> Hasn't made it to NC that I know of, or as far west as TX (and
beyond).
-> -> I think it's just a relatively localised thing.
->
->  RH> Most likely.
->
-> So you don't "burn out" on it except when you're in NJ.

Which doesn't happen any more anyway.

-> RH> Talk about learning the hard way! Putting good orthotic inserts in
-> RH> the shoes would help more. I used to like Spencos, but they've
gotten
->  RH> hard to find.
->
-> Right now, doctor says "gel insoles until I see you at the end of the
-> month" so that's what he's using. He is doing better, but has learned
-> not to change shoes for one that doesn't give the support he needs.
->
At least he learned. The gel ones are OK, but they're not always all that
heavy-duty.
