=========================
Hi Nancy,

NB> My turn to be out of contact for a few days... been dealing with a
NB> rather nasty case of the dizzies since mid-day Wednesday... finally
 NB> subsiding some... ;0

And I can't even call you a dizzy blonde. (G) Sounds like you're on the
mend tho.

NB> NB>> That's going to put another spin on things... including whether
NB> he can NB>> be home by himself, even with help... :( Hope things
NB> are going ok NB>> for him, though...

RH> He will be transferred to the local hospital on (probably) Monday. One
RH> good thing--it's on the same grounds as the facility where Mom is.

NB> That is a good thing. I take it he's been moved by now...?

He was transferred on Tuesday, had a minor problem Monday that needed
some attention before he could be moved.

RH> Possibly, once he gets some stamina, he will be allowed to walk up to
 RH> see her.

NB> And that also would be a good thing...

Mom was brought down to the hospital Tuesday afternoon. She knows (and
remembers) what happened, probably because it's concerning Dad. That's a
good thing; were it any of us kids, she might not be as mindful.

RH> He shouldn't stay home alone but we're not sure what to do now as
RH> he does not want a nursing home and is emphatic about it. He did
RH> use the Life Alert type button to call for help this time.

NB> Maybe this will push him a bit more to consider the thought of joining
NB> your mom in the nursing home, so that they can be together and also
NB> get the care they need...?

We don't know, the finances of that have to be considered. Mom is also
on a floor for patients with dementia/alzheimer's. Dad would probably be
on another floor.

 NB> sitting... ;) A friend of mine NB>> always asks for a take-home box
NB> at the beginning of the meal, and NB>> carefully puts half away at
NB> the outset to take home with her.

RH> I should do that but usually just cut it in half and move half to the
RH> side, if possible. Some meals aren't worth doing that (small portions)
RH> but the majority of them are 2-3 servings for the smaller appetite.

NB> If the smaller chunks don't seem large enough for the meal, you can
NB> always eat it all after all... (G) But, yes, when you can easily see
NB> that what's there is plenty for more than a meal, splitting it out
NB> helps keep you "honest".... ;) Essentially the same strategy my
NB> friend uses, just leaving it on the plate instead of putting it
 NB> immediately away...

Yes, sometimes I mention when I am served (and see the size of the
serving) that I'll want a box later on. I debated eating all of my Cuban
sandwich over in Durham the night we saw "The Piano Guys" but decided
not to. With the soup, I think I would have been too full. It made a
good lunch the next day.

NB> and NB>> the farmer isn't necessarily going to want to keep all those
NB> calves to NB>> add to the dairy herd... as long as there's a
 NB> market......

RH> And there seems to be no end to the market, even with the younger
RH> generations not doing as much home cooking as their elders do/did.

NB> After all, the restaurants still serve veal...

And some folks still buy/cook it at home.

 NB> RH>> Tonight, to celebrate Steve's
NB> RH>> birthday, I pulled a small rib eye steak out of the freezer.
NB> NB>> So you had the special dinner at home... :) Not all that
NB> surprising NB>> after all the travelling you'd been doing... :)

RH> Travel, and other reasons. It just worked out well to eat at home.

 NB> Understandable... :)

It was good; his "birthday cake" (pumpkin roll) was made this week.

Catch you later,
Ruth
