JC> Congrats!! I look forward to the day when I don't have to take my
JC> meds. Honestly, from time to time, I forget to take my meds. I've
JC> never had to take medicine daily my entire life like this. So it's
JC> something that I'm definitely not used to. I do try and remember to
JC> take my meds, and sometimes my wife will remind me to take them, but I

Sounds a lot like my husband... He developed heart issues this year,
landed in the hospital in June... He joked there that he was going to
have to get used to a whole new lifestyle... and it wasn't diet or
exercise that needed changing there. He was referring to meds and
doctors and regular monitoring... ;) 6 months later, he's almost
getting used to it.... but I still have to keep an eye on the mediset to
see if the pills get taken.. ;) Like Dave suggested, the twice a day 7
days a week mediset is a godsend to keep track of what needs taking
when, and if it happened. I have only one daily med to keep track of,
and I count out a week's worth into a separate pill bottle so that I can
always count back and see if I did take the dose I'm not sure of...
sometimes I did, sometimes I didn't... ;)

JC> definitely can't wait for the day when I drop this weight and don't
JC> have to worry about taking pills anymore. I'm not much of a pill
JC> person, but I would rather take a pill for this than insulin thru a
 JC> needle.

Can't blame you there. ;) Richard's not much of a pill person either,
but he's having to learn... some of the pills they put him on are
probably for the rest of his life, although the dosages have dropped for
most of them, and he's gotten off some already, with at least one more
due to be dropped if things stay stable...

 > You'll enjoy getting to know the various folks here. From time to time

JC> I have to admit, all the folks here just seemed to let me right on in
JC> as the new guy without hesitation. I appreciate a good crowd.

We're a friendly sort here. Besides, we actually know each other in
person, in most cases... if not all of us knowing everyone that way...
the echo has a habit of getting together where and when possible, both
in formal "picnics" where we eat and talk and talk and eat some more,
and informally when traveling through an area and making contact for a
meal or more... :) Most are Cooks, some are Eats, others (like me)
somewhere in between... but we all appreciate food...

 > projects. We cook/eat very internationally having lived in Germany,
 > Korea (Steve) and various places in the States.

JC> I'm a air force brat, but didn't have to move around a lot, although
JC> my mom did get stationed a couple of times in Hawaii and Germany for
JC> some time. So she's into all the different culture foods. She brought
JC> back some of those values back to my sister and I which is why I think
JC> I enjoy all types of foods.

My dad was a Navy brat, moved all over... His mom would drive up and
down the west or the east coast following dad's ship, and they lived
quite a few places even after Granddad retired... Daddy never really
settled down, despite not being career Navy, so I spent much of my
childhood moving all around the states... Being into different culture
foods was more an extension of that for me... I discovered the wealth
of other countries' foods as an adult on my own... :) I don't cook
too many of them, but enjoy eating them...

JC> Biggest Loser Club which has recipes in there that are low cal, and
JC> what not. They don't really focus on Carbs. They do stress the
JC> protein, and certain fats in foods, but for the most part it's all
 JC> about calories.

For a losing diet, calories may (at least for most people) be the main
issue... but when you are dealing with insulin resistence, carbs come
into play, since they require the insulin to be broken down.

JC> The biggest loser club isn't against diet sodas, but almost everyone I
JC> come across talk about how much worse they are than regular soda
JC> because of the Aspertame in it. I read all the studies on Aspertame
JC> and it's not harmful unless you ingest very high amounts of it. So I
JC> don't let it bother me to much.

The biggest deal for regular users of the aspertame (beyond the
harmfulness of it to those who can't tolerate it at all), is that
longish term use often starts to show a rise in blood sugars just as
though it were sugar as the body gets accustomed to it. And the other
thing they've found is that drinking the diet soda can make one crave
even more carbs...

 > There may be disagreements from time to time but usually nothing too

 > in with our opinion. Usually the moderator (Michael Loo) is pretty easy
 > going about what's discussed as long as there's some relationship to

 >
JC> LOL, since you brought it up, everyone knows that Chili is supposed to
JC> have Beans in it. :) HAHA Don't want to really flare anything up, but
JC> I'm sure someone will have a comment or two, and heck, I couldn't
 JC> resist myself! haha!

You're fitting in here just fine... (G) Welcome to the table.. ;)
