Here I'm stuck at the Philly airport, US Air having
cancelled my flight and oversold the next one. They
no longer offer hotel rooms, so I found a cheapie at
the Hilton, but the Internet was so slow that I
couldn't reserve, and by the time I got in, the place
was sold out. I'm currently standing by for the
oversold one. I have spent 9 hours here, going from
club to club looking for entertainment or alcohol.
The US Air club offers free beer and wine, the beer
being Budweiser products, the wine something that
makes your Gallo Hearty Burgundy look good. The
United club offers Castillo rum and otherwise
McCormick products - I tried the American whiskey,
and it was somewhere between bad and wretched. Such
is life. I also had an MGD, free pour, tasted as
though it's been dumbed down to Budweiser quality.
Thought of taking a meal someplace but didn't want
to lay out that level of cash. Next line of defense
is roast pork noodle soup at Far East if it's still
open. During the day I did help Lilli get her last
5000 miles to requalify for top status on American:
found her a flight from the west coast to Lihue for
under $500. The major advantage is that I get to get
upgraded on American flights under her status, which
is higher than mine.

I've discovered that US Air's yogurt peanuts taste
not so bad, but United's yogurt raisins are not nearly
so agreeable. Boredom is indeed an amazing thing.

P.S. They cancelled the other flight. The Hampton (a
somewhat lesser hotel) cost almost twice what the
Hilton had if I'd managed to book it. Ah, well, they
gave me a nice room and a full-size package of Reese's.

GRANDMA'S PEPPER RELISH
cat: condiment
yield: 1 batch

12 red peppers
12 green peppers
6 hot peppers
8 onions
2 c vinegar
3 c sugar
2 Tb salt

Grind peppers, pour boiling water over, let stand
until cool. Drain all water out, mix and let come
to a boil and seal.
