She's a good dining companion - she's the one who claims to
endorse veganism but does not practice it when we dine together.
It's not that she will eat all the peculiar things that I do,
but she actually doesn't quail when I do - in contrast to Lilli,
who will take my habits with a sense of humor for a couple days
but begins to turn green on the third or fourth day of tentacle
tempura.

This one, Link, is my regular companion at Texas Roadhouse.
It's not that either of us prefers it (I do, sort of), but
there's one near the rehearsal place that we frequent.

It was quite okay - Annie keeps her fridges pretty cold.
She's been getting on my case about my putting food out in
the mud room instead of the fridge. Whose fault is that -
she had a hundred bottles of whatever stored there for the
party, and anyhow, it was 40F or less in the mud room, not
much different from the fridges anyway.

It doesn't seem as anyone at the party found the food bad or
got sick.

Therein lies the rub.

She did them on top of the stove and burned the heck out of
the pan. I guess people liked the added smokiness, because
they ate at least half of the stuff (I ate none, but I did
end up cooking the shrimp, which I threatened not to do).

What I do is cook the rice in stock, then add the tasty
ingredients. I think the normal way, though, is to cook
the liver with the rice; but that leads to overcooked
liver.

And didn't show up at the party, another safe indicator.

But Syd showed up and asked me to dine at the Herdic with her
sometime this week. Not her sister, whom I find attractive
but who flirted a little and then shut me down. I think no.

Oysters Birtley
cat: starter
servings: 4

2 avocados
juice 1 small lemon
20 Sydney rock oysters
salt and pepper 1
dessertspoon dry white wine
brown bread and butter

Halve the avocados, scoop
out some of the centre, including both stones, sprinkle lightly with salt
and lemon juice. Fill each avocado half with 5 Sydney rock oysters. Sprinkle
with wine and pepper. Allow to stand for 4 to 5 hours. Serve well chilled
with brown bread and butter.
