When I got this latest Benz I opened the glove box to put my insurance card and
registration in there and had to sort through a pile of detritus - much of it
dating to when the car was new. The owner's manual (how many used cars still
have the owner's manual in them?) and service records and receipts, etc. The
owner's manual remains. Nearly everything else got donated to the bin to help
my trash-man with his incipient hernia. The manual came in very handy as there
are bells and whistles on this thing that are still being discovered from time
to time.

NB>> Probably... since they are now owned by the same outfit... Around

 NB>> all thriving... ;)

DD> I once asked my friend Lyman Samuels why he opened his "Samuels' Men's
DD> Furnishings" store on the same street with Hub Clothiers, Robert Hall,
DD> and Richmann's (suits, shirts, etc). His reply was "People come to
DD> this street to buy clothing. If I was on a street full of furniture
DD> stores I'd not get so many customers". I always remembered that.
DD> Thought of it again when MLoo was referencing the roadside diner in
 DD> the middle of nowhere.

NB> There are, too, Garment Districts, Art Districts, etc, in large cities
NB> such as NYC... And clumps of various eateries various places,
NB> including multiple ones just here around Rochester... yeah, I suppose
NB> it makes sense... And I noted YK Jim mentioning the concentrations of
NB> auto places... we have that too, One major one being West Henrietta
NB> Road, where there are many dealerships, owned by a few different
NB> outfits, along an about two/three mile stretch of road... One can do a
NB> fair bit of "window shopping" for a new car in a fairly short time...
 NB> :)

We have two separate "Murderer's Row" car dealership areas here. The Green
Hyundai dealership has two locations on the east side along with the Buick/GMC
dealer and the Volvo/Isuzu dealer all of which are in the midst of a gang of
conventional used car dealers and buy-here/pay-here leeches. On the west side
are all the other new car dealers in two bunches - one owned by "Green Family
Stores" which includes Dodge, Toyota, Scion, Nissan, VW, Subaru, Kia and
stretches for three traffic lights along a busy thoroughfare. The balance
(Chevrolet, Honda, Chrysler/Jeep/Fiat, Ford,) just south the the Meijer
Superstore. And a Lincoln/Mazda (also owned by Green Family) hung out on the
south side - where a China-Mart, ALDI and Golden Corral have sprung up.

I still miss the long-defunct downtown area of my town where one could take the
city bus from home, get fed, go to a movie, clothe his naked arse, buy yard
goods for sowing, appliances, etc. And then go home on the same bus later in
the day. Now the buses go there. And you can get a nosh and a drink. But you're
going to have to head for the outskirts for all your other shopping and/or a
movie. My (former) city fathers and their owners have a lot to answer for.
