=====================
Hi Michael,

RH> Our junk drawers have other junk in them--tape, velcro wraps,
 RH> scissors, light bulbs, etc.

ML> I've seen such drawers. Giving the lie to the adage "junk is
ML> stuff you throw away, and stuff is junk you keep."

Yes, and we've got lots of both. A lot of the "stuff" is just future
junk. (G)

ML> contents are airline memorabilia that I don't know what to do
ML> with but haven't the heart to toss. I'm lucky I didn't get all
RH> Look at it an reminisce about previous trips. About all you can do
RH> unless you want to organise it somewhat.

ML> Pretty much, but since doing trip reports I don't have to
ML> do that so much. Though I've lost (that gigantic 660MB hard
ML> drive that died a terrible death along with much of my brain)
ML> some of my most precious memories, including eating black
ML> chicken at my grandfather's restaurant (at least he owned part
ML> of it), my second visit to Rodney Strong, and climbing the
ML> 'Iao Needle with my sister and b-i-l, while visiting three rain
ML> forests and other cool things, during a month-long traverse of
ML> the Pacific Rim with just a carry-on and a personal item, back
ML> in the '90s. Some of the memories that remain include having
ML> my hiking boots rot off my feet and getting a fungal infection
ML> that made various parts of my body swell to multiple times the
 ML> normal size. Good times.

Sigh! No way that stuff can be recovered, even by some of the dead drive
revivers we've got here?

ML> thematic with something like thimbles or spoons. Oh, yes, I do
RH> I've got a few spoons but went with the thimbles as a natural
RH> collectable for a seamstress. They're also small, lightweight and

ML> I know what you mean, as I once had up to 6 stringed instruments,
ML> and I knew a guy who had 50. Not so small and lightweight, though.

No, and hazardous to you if you are carrying a Stradivarious. At least
the Minneapolis concertmaster got his back with no apparant ill effects
or damage to the instrument.

RH> (generally) inexpensive--very easy to pack.

ML> ... nor inexpensive nor easy to pack, which are among the best
ML> traits for a collectible, which is part of why menus are so
ML> good compared to musical instruments.

Very much so--the menus are flat and can be slipped into a lot of places
where an instrument would have trouble fitting.

ML> have a bunch of airplane menus from back when airplanes offered
 ML> menus.
RH> Probably some interesting reading there. Unless we fly international
RH> again, I doubt we'll ever have proper meals on a flight again.

ML> To be blunt, when did any of us ever have proper meals on a
ML> flight? Okay, I did, but that was in the 1970s at the latest.
ML> After that, even when my reports report something as good,
ML> that term has to be taken in context.

I know, I've had a lot of mediocre meals but they beat what's being
handed out now. Southwest gives a choice of honey roasted peanuts,
pretzels, airplane crackers (like animal crackers but in airplane shape)
and sometimes vanilla oreo type cookies. Others don't even give that
much, just peanuts, but have stuff available for purchase--at a hefty
price. At least non alcholic drinks are still free.

Catch you later,
Ruth
