  Any army or combined operation can be won in the open.  Todays forces
have tried to include all terrain, but well as in Afganistan, it is
not the case.  They know the terrain, as you mentioned and are holding
their own.  Also their commanders are knowledgable, so that helps too
along with the supplys coming from somewhere.

  All these countrys who did the same long ago, forgot the partisan.

USSR forgot that too, how her people fought back and died, and the
USA forgot, the lesson of 1776, as well, WW2 and vietnam.

  Not a bad way of putting it.  When France was over run by Hitler,
they guarded here and there, and still the freedom fighters, operated
knowing if they were caught, they would be executed.

  Well they did support the first days, and when US entered Baghdad.,
But then they also said their thank yous, and hinted they should leave,
and a arab government would takeover...the USA refused this arab
comment which they heard a lot.  So now they are in a civil war
getting more soldiers killed and no way out, as arabs fight to
takeover Iraq with their own ideas, and one of their views is
USA OUT!

  Whatever their aims, they must also remember that if they want to
be regarded as combatants, they must be wearing a uniform.  They also
must adhear to the Geneva Convention, but then in a war, a lot of
this goes out the window in the heat of battle.

  The best thing that happened to the USSR during the war, was the
supplys coming finally coming from the west, reluctantly, and along
came the aircraft that gave the USSR the ability to hit Berlin,
which they did, teaming up with aircraft from the west, to show
the citizens of Berlin that the Furher was so great.

  The USA in WW2 were hardly defined as terrorists.  IT was a declared
war between the Axis and Allied countrys.  They also were signatories
to the Geneva Convention.   Attacks are only to be taken against
military and other targets as defined, leaving out and trying to
avoid civilians.

  I define terrorists as not going after nothing but to inflict
death and destruction without regard to the civilians, of that
country.  As with the WTC in New York...there were many nationalies
there from all over the world.   That was a terrorist attack, thus
any country allowing terrorists a safe place, are risking a 
surgical strike of whatever is available.  In quick...fast..and
out and then see what support is then offered to terrorists
seeking safety?    Iraq..was giving rewards in a way to the familys
of slain terrorists.  They came under the crosshairs, and well
after what happened...US citizens wanted something done, and 
revenge was the sense here...and so they are where they are in
Iraq...bogged down.
