Yes, they are. But there several types of Fidonet nodes. The main
difference - how the pointer get his messages.
1. A man is a pointer of a BBS node; he connects to it via telephone and
get/put messages.
2. There are special Fidonet nodes (so called gates) which allow their
pointers to fetch messages via NNTP i.e. as if the Fido echoes were NNTP
Usenet groups. In this case a pointer uses the software designed for reading
NNTP UseNet groups. (It's me).
3. There are special Fidonet nodes which allow their pointers to fetch
messages via HTTP or simply speaking the Web interface. In this case the
pointer of such a node can use usual WEB browser. http://www.fido-online.com
is an example of such a node.

As far as I understand these nodes support different numbers of kludge lines
and can have their own service kludges. But a common feature is that all
messages have to be _compatible_. So if BBS node reads some funny kludges it
does not understand it just suppose them redundant (actually they are for
special nodes only).

BTW I heard that the old programs now have the second birth. The power and
abilities of old computers is quite close to hardware of cell phones. And
now we can see old programs updated for cell phones.

But big flame is like a fireworks. It is better to have it periodically. But
alas, as it often we can see, everything is told and not once. We can say
about Bush, but the result will be the same, as in Russian saying- "tom-cat
Vas'ka was listening to the cry of the housewife and continued eating the
sour cream." ;) Although who knows may be there is something to say yet.
For instance it is a good lesson for American opposition. During last
elections we can see two companies:
1. Bush's campaign which was founded on conservative views. Just look - he
leads highly unpopular war. The only thing he can use in attraction of
American peoples - moral, Christian values. His slogans - no gay marriages,
no gay adoptions, unborn child has right too live, although he cannot hold a
poster.
The Kelli slogans on these matters are quite opposite and despite his great
bonus in the form of antiwar position he had lost.
So I can see a paradox - America wants morality more than stopping  the war.
If Kelly had made accent on the issue of morality no doubt he would have
won.

Although, of course, time is changing, and the recent clamour when a
pederast was ordained to be a priest of american anglican church is very
indicative. May be the defeating of conservatism in America is not too far
away. :-\

I try not to think of it at all. The course of discussions is unpredictable.
You say something just in a hope that somebody support the conversation (if
he bored to be silent). One subject can bear another. Of course it is
obvious that nobody is ready to spent much time tuting others. As for me the
point of these letters to be more quick in sentence construction. I believe
it helps me when I try to listen to live English speech. And if somebody
point me out at two my errors that would be nice.
