           Is in my last sentence above.  You told a story about an idealistic
student, daughter of a wealthy businessman, who sounded like a socialist until
her father asked how she'd feel about sharing her marks.  I told a story about
another person who sounded like a capitalist until he was physically disabled.
As I see it these three had something in common... they didn't want to give up
what they felt they'd worked hard for.  That's understandable.  If only people
recognized what they had in common & if only they realized their point of view
might be quite different if the shoe was on the other foot, there'd be no need
to draw lines in the sand & consider those on the other side a threat....  :-)

           According to my dictionaries, something which is taboo (or tabu) is
forbidden by custom and/or tradition.  Are you saying the meaning of this word
is a bit different in Tonga, where it originally came from?

           That's my interpretation too.  It may be unwise to discuss religion
and/or politics with certain people because it leads to bitterness at times...
hence the generally accepted social taboo.  Such discussions aren't illegal on
ham radio AFAIK.  But some of the behaviour folks tend to exhibit when they're
hot under the collar, e.g. using foul language, is illegal on the air....  ;-)

           No problem.  Sometimes I'm slow to answer because real life gets in
