         Everybody??  I imagine that seemed to be the case at the time.  As an
adult I can't help wondering if there were some kids who, although they didn't
like what was happening, kept silent because they felt powerless to prevent it
... and some who went along with it because it meant they'd be relatively safe
for awhile.  What matters most, however, is that Kate would have felt publicly
humiliated and/or rejected.  That's her reality and the net result is the same
whether or not others are in complete agreement with her version of the story.

         I attach more significance to this story because it's about something
which happened to her.  All the others I've read appear to be second-or-third-
hand accounts... e.g., a friend says her daughter's teacher did such-and-such.
There's a game we used to play at children's birthday parties here... a person
whispers something to their neighbour on one side, their neighbour whispers it
to their neighbour on the same side, etc.  When the message gets to the source
again it's virtually unrecognizable.  This game works with adults too....  ;-)

         I spent six weeks in a pediatric cancer ward.  She won't scare me off
that easily, but I can see how others might have some difficulty with it.  :-/

         Uh-huh.  She can't change what happened in 1975, and she can't change
the particular individuals who hurt her.  She can't force others to accept the
idea that King Canute/Cnut/Knut, for example, didn't speak & write English the
way we do now.  But she can change her own perception of such situations.  :-)

         I'm not sure I understand more than about half of what you said there
... I don't do newsgroups.  According to my sources "gnu" can be pronounced in
at least three different ways, though, and now we're back to where we started!
If you'd like to continue the remainder I'd suggest the SURVIVOR echo....  :-)
