BF>>> Yesterday I heard Andy Roony in CBS 60 mins give a perfectly
BF>>> good explanaison to why the rest of the world hate USA. He
BF>>> said:" We don't give a <feeces> about what's going on in the
BF>>> rest of the world, we don't have any program that shows what's
BF>>> going on in any other country and we simply don't give a <poop>
BF>>> about news from them eiter."

 JY>> He's probably right, they don't, and they don't.

BF> Hope so. He's done news for over 30 years so he should know.

I remember when he was young and caustic; now he's old and caustic.

JY>> We ARE aware that GM has shut down several plants in the past
JY>> year or so, that Ford has done likewise, and that Chrysler is a
JY>> company that, right now, Daimler-Benz wishes they didn't own.
JY>> While yes, the 12,000 layoffs in Europe is news to me, a fact
JY>> that I regret for I'm a glutton for knowledge, I am painfully
JY>> aware that a similar number of auto-related jobs have been
JY>> eliminated, some forever, here in the US. Were you aware
 JY>> of this?

BF> Don't you think that GM whises they didn't own Opel and SAAB now?
BF> As I said to Robert, we do have international news here unlike you so
BF> this was no news for me. Glad I could bring some news to you.

There have been admissions that the wish they had not gotten involved with
SAAB, and SAAB wishes that GM hadn't cheapened there product

1) By creating the US version of their car and

2) By attaching their name to it.

They should have no regrets WRT Opel, which they've had a stake in for about 60
years and where have been designed several cars now produced for the US market.
I think, but i'm not sure, that the Chevrolet Lumina began life as an Opel,
then also became a Holden in Australia. If I need to be corrected on this,
feel free to do so, anyone.

We've gone from the days when a car rusted to an unusable stae in 3 years to
cars that last for decades, so fewer people need new cars, and fewer people
over here can afford new cars today, bedamned what the Prez says about
unemployment.

JY>> It condenses, I think to the fact that the loss of jobs in Europe
JY>> has a direct effect on your standard of living, but little or no
JY>> effect on mine, so our news progranms don't bother to tell us.
JY>> It also needs to be

BF> Now they are effecting you since the majority of the share-holder are
 BF> Americans.

True, but those shareholders' expenditures seldom trickle down to my level.

JY>> considered that we Americans are so busy that we don't have the
JY>> time or the attention span to devote to a lengthy, comprehensive
JY>> newscast. Womeone wrote that the average office worker (male)
JY>> allots a total of 45 minutes a WEEK with their children. If
JY>> we've sunk to that level trying to maintain a lifestyle, how
JY>> could you expect us to pay attention to the business news in
 JY>> Europe.

BF> That tells a lot where the world is going and then think that the rest
BF> of the world want to be like you.......

 JY>> Sad, isn't it?

I'll take credit for writing the following, but I stole the idea from someone
else, don't know who.

In the 18th Century and the early part of the 19th, Britain was the power top
be reckoned with; she ruled the seas, she colonized, she was experiencing an
industrial revolution and her wealth and power grew to be paralleled by none.
Beginnin in about 1812, however, the upstarts of the New World, the once and
former colonists of America, having fought and run the British out of their
country several decades before, embarked on their own industrial revolution
which continued for about 150 years, more or less. They also made their
presence known at sea and though they lost the fight with Britain that they
begun in 1812, they continued to build their fleets of ships and train men-at
-arms until they presented an awesome, unbeatable force at sea that still
exists to this day, as well as superior ground troops and air power.
Meanwhile, as America was a-building, Britain was resting on her laurels, as it
were, and as American Industry continued to modernise, British Industry stuck
to the old "tried and true" methods to the point where their goods could no
longer compete with American products, and so the Brtitish economy waned.

So today, America has the upper hand, militarily; and is proud of the products
of it's shores, claiming that none finer can be found.

Who's paying attention to China?

I submit that within two generations, closer to one, I think, that China will
emerge as the new World Power, and America will sit and look in awe and say
"What happened", not realizing that we, ourselves, caused this shift in power
by creating the demand for Chines products to the point that they will pay
premium prices for raw materials and for energy.

And so the wheel turns, every few centuries someone else takes charge, and I
fear that our turn is about over.
