When I lived there, I never had a car that didn't have a hole in it till
I bought the 65 Malibu. The dealers made quite a bit of money spraying the
bottom of new cars with a sealer that was supposed to prevent rust, but
that almost always cracked and made things worse. The best thing they ever
did was to install under carriage high pressure sprayers at car washes.

If they're made out of steel, they'll rust too. I think it was Chrysler or
AMC that experimented with dip galvanizing their bodys before painting
them. They didn't rust as fast, but the paint never stuck to the body for
very long either.
