RW>>> (SIC) is only used when you're using the same word someone else has

 DC>> Wrong! (partially)

RW>> Nope. That is the correct description of how '(sic)' is to be used.

 DC> Not in all cases.

In all cases where you want to use the word as quoted, but don't want to
be the person using it in error.

RW>>> SIC: Thus; so. Used to indicate that a quoted passage, especially

RW>> Correct, sic is an adverb. However, (sic) is not.

DC>> I had intentionally written 'no where'!

RW>> No, you intentionally wrote "nowhere" ... Had you used my 'no where'
RW>> and followed it with a (sic), that would have been the proper use of
 RW>> (sic).

DC> But, that would have negated my point had I done it in that fashion.

You did that by misquoting me and using (sic) too.

RW>> You get a -D on this one.

DC> No. Sic is also used to signify an intentional typo.

Nope. You dont use sic to indicate an intentional error, it's used to
indicate a quoted error.

Sic is a latin word used as short-hand indicating that a quoted
source contains an error. It's used in perentheses because parentheses
are used to mark off explanatory or qualifying remarks in writing or
printing.

For example, "I've missspelled this" becomes "I've missspelled [sic]
this"; when quoted by a later author who sees the spelling error and
wishes to indicate that the source material contained the error, i.e. it
was not introduced by the quoting author.

DC> Going to another message, had you wrote "spiel (sic)" I might have
DC> just given it a LOL. By not doing that makes it appear to be only
 DC> a typo.

Actually, it's not a typo, it's a word that sounds like spell, but it
means something else. Which happens often when one doesn't proof read his
material. When you saw it and recognized my intentional error, you should
have quoted it back to me as speil (sic), not the other way around.

 DC> The D- is yours.

You've now earned an F in the class and must write 'speil' and 'spell'
1000 times each on the blackboard. Also, intersperse (sic) between each
different spelling.

This is how it should look;

'speil' (sic) 'spell'

I'll tell the janitor you'll be here for a while and not to lock you in.
