Personally, I think this whole echo is lost in reaction. I know that
goes over the head of most in here, but a few might just understand.

You do not operate a BBS. I do. No offense, but I see the lack of
users. I have heard the Internet generation crying at having to
actually type on a keyboard or decipher what key to press. I've read
complaints that the Sysops demand too much information to give access.
According to many, it's way over the edge to ask for a real name or a
correct birth date. The fear of identity theft, and many other fears
instilled by the Internet, hurts more than many realize.

This is not idle speculation that I spout. I have visited internet
message forums (PHP boards of different topics and such) and invited
people to join my BBS. Those that have replied back after perusing the
telnet address have complained that I asked for their real name and
birth date and told me that they disconnected at that point rather than
give that personal information to a stranger. I had been in some of
the Internet forums for months or years and was know to these people,
yet I was a "stranger" and not to be trusted.

I have no idea. When was the last time someone sent an article in? I
stopped trying to be the sole reporter and article writer for the
Fidonews a long time back.

I'm asking how there can be racial slurs in the Fidonews publication
when there are no articles published?

Only in the mind. I ask; How can the Fidonews be a cesspool if there
are no articles in it? I see no articles in the Fidonews. I see no
articles in the echo. I see flames, name calling and other stuff, but
that is in the Fidonews echo, not the Fidonews.

The Fidonews echo is not the newspaper of Fidonet. The Fidonews echo
is a place to discuss the articles published in the Fidonews
publication (which IS the newsletter of Fidonet). Since, by admittance
in this echo, there have been no articles published in the Fidonews,
there should be no conversation in this echo. Nothing has been
published to discuss. I really don't know how to draw a better or more
clear picture than that.

There is very little commonality between the Fidonews and the Fidonews
echo. Only that the echo is to be used to discuss the articles in the
Fidonews, or as a place/means to submit articles.

It is truly sad to bog this echo down with reality... but I fear I
have. Perhaps I should not have come back in here. :(
