CS> Thats how i do it. And I might add, they have fruit juices at *very*

Grin, I can picture that! What was the local beer in Thailand? Somehow 'Tiger
Beer' is coming to my mind but then again when I think of that, I get mixed up
and think of Singapore too.

I'll usually shop for 2-3 hours then take a break for an hour or so at a
curbside bar and chat with my friends over a cold one. I tend to try the
local beers first. Some are good, some are so-so, and some of course do not
suit me. San Migiel is a decent backup as well as heiniken.

BF>> Thanks, but we don't go there for that kind of entertainment. Rather s

CS> Well, it's a part of the culture and you cant find elephants wandering
CS> around looking for rides at 10pm sorry to say!

BF> Sorry but that culture isn't our cup of tea so we just have to find an
BF> earlier in the day.

Grin, you should be able to find one with no problem. One of the 2
(Pattaya/Patong) has them walking around during daytime looking for riders for
a fee (they are fun!). Right there at the street along next to the beach (one
street over from it?). Humm, I think that one was Pattaya but you can get
tour guided rides on them in both places.

BF>> The he must have been on the west-coast where the Tsunami hit and Patt is
BF>> far away from that place.
BF>> I'm going to bring my laptop so I can be your Thai node....

CS> Apologies. Inoocent mistake. I keep going to Pataya beach and Patong
CS> Beach. He was in Patong. I keep mixing the names due to them being so
CS> close. Been to both about 4 times each now. Alex was in north Patong
CS> beach area but still walking from the main part.

BF> No problem, easily done.

Yes, it gets kind of hard sometimes for me to separate all the ports i've been
to in the last 4.5 years out here. Thailand, no matter where, is a great
vacation spot for a very decent price. I've never been to Bangkok though I've
heard it's a good spot as well?

CS> This is true but most of the walkabout stuff is not pretending to be
CS> 'gems' just nice corals and things at a decent price. Some are nicely
CS> painted clay beads, fired with a glaze and pretty enough for what they
CS> are. Watch for cheap clasps but generally they are sound enough for
 CS> normal use.

BF> OK, but what exactly do you mean with clasps?
BF> Something to have in the hair?

Sorry, must be one of those strange words. No, it's the 'catch' or 'thing you
close to keep a necklace or braclet on' if it cant be just pulled over the
head or wrist. The same word can also be used for an ornament worn in the
hair 'hair clasp' (barrett is same). Forgive my spelling here but my dyslexia
makes me bad at spelling words I seldom type.

Clasp means 'to hold or grip' and in jewelry, it's the part that you can open
and close to put something on. It's very possible that folks from other
english speaking areas may use another word for it. 'Catch' being the next
most common one I'm used to.

Anyways, they have some lovely inexpensive stuff that isnt actually bad quality
at all but the 'clasp' may not be good quality and might break on the second
wearing. I'm not talking gemstones and fancy stuff, but something your
lady-friends might like for wearing with a simple blue-jeans and blouse.
Might be some cheaper type 'gemstones' as well like the smaller 'tiger eye'
stone that polishes up pretty but isnt a costly item.

CS> Khao Lak is a good place though I only went down there once for an
CS> afternoon. South of Patong right? Or did I mix cities again and that was
 CS> Pattaya?

BF> Guess that you're right this time and ther's a lot on TV about it now.
BF> one year since it happend.

Yes. Discovery TV has a special that is to air on the 26th. Also I caught a
CNN International post (web) about land grab problems. Some folks who've
already rebuilt their houses are in trouble with the big money guys who say
they own the land the folks built on and have lived on for over 100 years.

                                       xxcarol
