a record marked as deleted is not shown in the listings... this is much the
same way as deleting a message in your message base... it is marked as deleted
but it is still there until the message base maint is run and the bases are
purged and packed of "dead wood"... a record that is marked as deleted can
easily be undeleted by turning off the deleted mark but one that has been
purged must be totally recreated to get it back...

howso?? the echolist has been operating in this fashion for many years thru all
three elist operators... there have been some subtle differences between them
but nothing that has been anything really major... the main differences have
been in the procedures used to thwart those who would hijack echotag
listings...

one operator would pack and purge at the same time that deletions were
processed... the next operator saw that that was a loophole that hijackers
could utilize and thus he seperated the pack-purge operation from the deletion
processing operation... now, both are done on an irregular schedule and
seperate and apart from each other...

what effin' business is it of bigbrother's? good grief... you folk talk about
us having big brother over here but you've had him shoved up your backsides for
so long that you don't even see him any more... cameras everywhere...
overseers... speech/language controllers and dictators... maybe george orwell
was correct and 1984 was based somewhere other than Z1...
