We did more than merely "throw a couple of bombs" at the country 
which trained the terrorists, Afghanistan.  We conquered their 
army and helped them set up a democratic gummint.

And it's because of that the terrorists are slowly being wiped 
out -- even as they continue to murder innocent Iraqi citizens as 
well as some of our troops.

George W. Bush put it very accurately and succinctly shortly 
after 9/11.  He pointed out that "They hate us because we're 
good!"  Right on the target!!

No way are they winning.  They did their damnedest to stop the 
elections in Iraq by threatening the citizens.  Despite their 
threats there were *three* successful elections in Iraq during 
2005.  Each election had an increasing number of voters.

The IRA stopped because America put pressure on them.  We have a 
large Irish contingent here which was helping finance the IRA.  
That stopped and our negotiator went to Northern Ireland.  He 
brokered a deal.  As usual, America was the savior.
