Your comments above exactly mirror mine way back when Mike [somebody] first
began the Echolist.  I argued high and low, and was finally forced by the 'mail
movers' to concede and give in.  I suspected then that Mike was connected to
the 'mail movers', but had no proof, so I shut up and gave in.

Some five years later Adrian took over the echolist, and one of my echo's
listing got messed up.  Adrian had me jumping through hoops for weeks before I
finally got it straightened out.  As the years passed, I added several other
echos, and at each listing attempt, I had to go through the same song and
dance, and had living hell getting the new listings straightened out.  Adrian
definitely had 'friends in high places', and I had to approach the right mail
movers at the right time to get assistance straightening out messed up
listings.  There was a complete heirarchy of 'Overseers', 'Omsbudsmen',
'Boards', etc., whose individual rules had to be followed in a correct
sequence, and Netmail to those parties fell on deaf ears, no replies were ever
received.  At least our Z1C of that time replied with a "Noted".  Finally,
something in FidoNet pissed him off and he simply turned off his computer, end
of game.

Thom was active in another echo that I frequented, helping other moderators,
and I knew for some time that he was running a 'test version' of an echolist. 
When Adrian gave up and quit, Thom began advertising his services as
'functional', so I signed my echos to his service.  Echolisting is now a
simple, convenient service, no extraneous BS and hoop jumping required, no 20
sets of rules to follow in sequence, everything is on one simple page.  When I
have a 'problem', I can Netmail or EMail a 'sample submission' to Thom, and
expect a useful accurate reply.

As a moderator of several echoes, I have no problem with the present system,
except for the fact that there are still enough unscruplous members in Fidonet
that such a system is necessary at all...
