Hi Ross,

I was "the" bridge mail hub for Z1 <-> Z4 when John brought up his FTP server 
and this kind of became an issue.  I was carrying some Asian & European echos
at 
the time and was building the Z2 / Z6 <-> Z4 bridge when I left. The 
conversations I participated in indicated that it was not an issue with most 
mail movers, as most mail movers just -- very simply -- wanted to move Mail.  
John was ate up with with politics of Fidonet, and things were -- more or less 
-- his way or not at all.  "John" was the only T1 Z1B that actually 'mandated 
it' while others carried echos that weren't Elisted.  Basically, it boiled down

to a "John" issue in as much as all of the echos he carried were Elisted, or he

didn't carry them (with few exceptions).  

I understood his logic -- he wanted a structured echo list with moderators. For

John, everything had to have "Structure". But, he failed to realize that
Fidonet 
is a hobby, not a stringently structured organization.

It was because of "John" that our bridges between Z4 & the rest of the world 
began to fall apart (but that's another story).  If it wasn't for Louis Oaken 
(old Sunshine.com), Centam & Southam would never have been able to maintain 
Mexican link.

In response to Paul's statement, it was the "Souvestry" group who began some 
level of mandating elists, but not all mail movers as he inferred.  Hell -- 
planet connect damn sure didn't care.. <g>
