I know that was one of the reasons given, but I don't buy that. calling from
the US to Europe may be more expensive than calling long distance within the
US, but it is not all that more expensive.

Anyewy, if it is true it is a very selfish reason. Wherever the e-list is
maintained, the majority of moderators have to make intercontinental calls if
they wish to deliver the data by direct mail.

That could heve been solved by using encryption.

I can not shred the suspicion that they just wanted the e-list to remain in Z1.

Whatever the reasons, the point is that they rejected the merged Z1-Z2 list and
so torpedoed any attempt to come to a glbal list and by doing that, they made
Thom's list a Z1 list.

I am not aware that ever being offered.

Yes, he got tired of the political games and stepped down. Tjere was no
successor.

Nonsence. Many choose to just not have their echo's listed.
