What good will the profits do when you're invaded? Better to keep those
useful tools for a rainy day.

But at the time, you wouldn't have known that. Perhaps they were only
gearing up for a 'defenseive' manuever. Hell, the Germans didn't need any
war gear when they took over Austria. Only after they invaded Poland did
anyone know for sure. Afterall, Chamberlain declared that there would be
'Peace in our time!'

Oh? Near the end it wasn't, but before, man I could have used a few pounds
of that gold they deposited in Swiss banks. Of course that paled in
comparison to the art collections and of course the land aquisitions, had
they remained German holdings.

Not at the time. I remember not having any sugar for my cereal because we
didn't have enough 'sugar stamps'...My dad and grandfather walked to work
in sub-zero whether because there wern't enough 'gas stamps' to buy the
gas that wasn't available anyway and later parking the brand new 41 Chevy
because there weren't any tires available either. Fortunately, dad got
drafted and we didn't have to worry about those minor problems anymore.

Trust me, the only people who profited from that war were the people who
could afford to supply industry with materials to make that gear. Workers
surely didn't, else my grandfather and my dad would have been rich by the
end of the war.
