I must say that you have not toted the party line and have stood firm with 
your own opinions.  This is refreshing and respectable.

Dan, Roy and myself have not agreed on everything.  Specifically, Roy and 
myself have been round and round on issues in the past.  As I've written 
before, I've certainly had my computer monitor full of "ROY" on an occasion 
when we have disagreed.

I tend to wonder into this echo when I experience a lull in school, and as 
the conversations turn toward more mundane issues and my workload increases, 
I tend to wonder out.  In the last few weeks I haven't disagreed 
(necessarily) with anything Roy or Dan have written.  On an occasion, when I 
do disagree with something that was written, I will usually write some kind 
of netmail as a precursor, and follow it up in a day or two with an 
Echomail.  Dan's really good at keeping us informed via Netmail.  If we 
disagree, we will usually simply agree to disagree and leave it at that.

As far as moderation goes, I think my reins are pretty stretched out.  I 
think that Dan & Roy handle things pretty well -- probably better than 
myself.  Although, I've kept it pretty civil this go-round (with a few 
exceptions).

In this particular instance, I think we all know that Michiel is extremely 
wrong, and he knows that he is extremely wrong... I'm sure he wants it to 
end on some kind of positive note without loosing too much face, but since 
he demands on having the last word, it won't end well for him.  He should 
have realized that attacking "ANY" sysop for having Fidonews on his BBS is 
an attack on every sysop, "IN EVERY ZONE".  This was not a good argument to 
have.

As far as my documentation of Felten's hate campaign against my country..... 
I'd be willing to let by-gone's be by-gones, as long as he provided a simple 
apology to my country in this echo (not in Fidonews, although that's 
acceptable too).  It's that simple...  I'm not looking for a personal 
apology, but rather an apology for his hateful remarks against America and 
Americans in general.  He can continue to hate me all he wants, it's his 
right and I really don't care.  It's his offending comments that are at 
fault here.

If he would make that small concession, you'd have my word that I would 
modify my Fidonews website and remove the documentation that offends MvD 
(the obvious stuff quoted from Felten).  I would keep that stuff //off// the 
website until such time as Felten makes another (very) obvious hate comment 
against my country.  I'd even be obliged to let 'you' be the judge of said 
comment if he were to ever make one.

As for the copyrighted material he may or may not have available; I'm very 
happy to read that whatever he has is now password protected.  It should 
have been from the very beginning.  To advertise a site in Fidonews that 
provided free copyrighted material is a kick in the face to every 
professional and amateur programmer that makes a living writing and selling 
software.  Since whatever he may or may not have on his website is now 
password protected, that issue is dead as it's impossible to tell either 
way.  His affiliation with whatever political organization he want's to 
affiliate himself with is certainly his own business.  I would sincerely 
hope that he won't continually get offended if I post an update to the 
pirate situation on an occasion, and I won't be offended if he posts an 
update as well (pro or con) as long as it's all in the spirit of friendly 
debate.

Although many may disagree, but in my opinion, the editor of an 
international newsletter shouldn't be bias.  If the editor of the Berlin 
Times (or some leading newspaper in Sweden, France or Germany) made public 
comments regarding his hatred toward the Polish, I don't believe he would be 
in his position very long.  Similarly, if the editor of the New York Times 
(rag) made it known in public he / she hated blacks, she would be fired 
pretty quickly.  Since Felten made it well known that he hates Americans, I 
don't think he should be editor of Fidonews.  However, it's my opinion, and 
for the most part, my opinion doesn't count in this particular matter.  But, 
I do believe he does owe my country an apology, and if he does present one 
in this echo (or Fidonews), I will remove the material documentation on my 
website.  A simple apology, but one that isn't sarcastic or derogatory in 
nature (defeats the purpose).

This is a very generous concession.  Michael has already stated that if I 
remove that material, he will stop his ranting about the copyright issue. 
This could finally end this argument.
