The original hebrew language was an interpretation by the jews. For
instance, the 6th commandment; "Thou shalt not murder" is interpretated by
the jews as meaning; Killing an innocent human being is a capital sin.

Note the word 'innocent' in that interpretation. If you read the old
testament, you'll find that God not only encourages killing of jewish
enemies, he does it himself. Check out what happened to the city of
Jericho, for instance. And if you really dig into jewish history, you'll
find out that when they were told by God to settle in the land of Canaan
(known as Isreal thereafter), the jews murdered everyone, man, woman
and child.

You, the non-believer should be wary of siting this commandment. The
jewish interpretation says;

"This commandment is to believe in the existence of God and His influence
on events in the world, and that the goal of the redemption from Egypt was
to become His servants (Rashi). It prohibits belief in or worship of any
additional deities yet also seems to say that other gods do exist."

Plus you should note that the interpretations by the jews and later
interpretations by the Catholics differ.

The Catholic version of Ten Commandments follows the Augustinian-model and
was settled at a time before verses and chapters were inserted into the
Bible (mid-12th century) and shortly after the Third Council of Carthage
which defined the texts of the New Testament. This explains why Christian
interpretations of the ten commandments divide the first few commandments
differently than do Jewish or Muslim versions.

So, unless you have the original stone tablets in front of you and you can
read the language they were written in, you're not going to be able to
quote one interpretation that hasn't already been plagerized and changed
to satisfiy some religious order.

Frankly (no pun intended), IMNSHO, religion shouldn't be a subject of
discussion in this echo...but, I thought perhaps you might be better
informed if you knew a few facts before you begin another controversial
arguement here.
