You do not and never have spoken for me although you have tried to do so all
too often when you insinuate 'true American' and that it follows what 'you'
think and the rest are not.

Yoi might want to keep in mind that when you speak, others may forget that your
experience is far more limited than you want to believe of yourself.  You did
a few years during wartime but served only behind the lines in the states. 
There is nothing shameful in that as such jobs were also needed and if that
was your assignment, then that was what you were to do.

To tell me though, with 23 years plus some military experience, some of it in
'harms way at the front' though thankfully no battles happened to my ship,
that I am 'not a True American' is ludicrous.

Now lets deal with this 'cozy up to others'.  Is that all you can percieve?  Do
you have no concept that my experience is so much more wide and varied than
yours has been with other cultures (living in THEIR lands) that I may have
learned something from it?  Sure you have some 30+ years on me, but I am not a
child.  I see someone type something and I do not automatically 'assume' they
are being negative.  If unsure, I *ask* (see thread on 9/11 comment).

Frank, I just finished 'facilitating' PCPO (Chief Indoctrination for new Navy
Chiefs who will be pinned in 16SEP).   Next year, another will have to take my
place as i'll either be retired or enroute my last command.  Only the better
ones are allowed to teach it.  Only the best are the 'coordinator' for the
entire series and I've been graced with that job for 7 years running.  No one
who cant 'cross cultural connect' among the varied members and cultures of the
US Navy, can do that.

Can *you* sit with a group of 'about to be Chiefs' and discuss frankly how the
leadership traits of a Filipeno are different but enhancing and just where the
culture lines cause them problems as well as make them better, in a mixed
group of Filipeno and non-Filipeno people?  Warn and empower both in a group
setting to bring out the best of us all?  To rely on one another's strong
points and support each other on our personal weak ones without being
embarrassed about asking for help?

Yet by your definition, I am 'not a True American' because we disagree.  We
disagree because you are what I call 'mono-cultural'. You do not even
recognize that other viewpoints exist as far as I can tell.

To exonerate you, you are not alone in this.  It's a failing you see in many
people in many lands, not just the USA. Your years may be more than mine, but
you've never lived the same as some of the others here.  You may not be able
to adapt anymore unless you make severe effort but I could be wrong about you.

Everyne else in this echo now, as far as I can tell, seems willing to at least
'listen' even if not accepting (and sometimes flaming) and learning little
bits.  You are the exception.

Perhaps that is why we do not get along.  Unless *you* change, that will
probably continue as on this one, I will *NOT* change.

PS:  I'm happy with my version of 'American'.  I think I fit the bill just
