As for the uranium, we know exactly how much there was and where it was
stockpiled. The records were quite accurately kept and history proves them
correct.

We now know that Germany stopped the effort after Speer became armaments
minister and calculated quite accurately that Nazi-Germany could not lay its
hands on sufficient uranium for enrichment to produce even just one bomb.
Nuclear technology is nothing else but mathematics and physics. Believe me,
Nazi Germany had plenty of both and could have done the job long before the
Manhattan Project yielded results. It's the lack of raw materials which
prevented that.
 
As for Japan ... true, they also made efforts but they were very premature.
Their main problem was they had no uranium whatsoever, that is to say in even
smaller quantities than Nazi Germany had. For this reason at the end of the war
all the light-enriched uranium that Germany still had was loaded on a submarine
(U-234) together with a fully disassembled Me-262 jet-fighter, blue-prints for
long-range weaponry and 2 Japanese officers.
 
On May 5th 1945 it was in the northern Atlantic when the German Supreme Command
ordered all fighting to stop and to lay down arms. U-234 surfaced and
surrendered to the USCGC "Eastwind" of which a very young Warren Bonner, future
Fidonews-editor, was a crew-member. He witnessed and documented the whole thing
including the suicide of both Japanese who received a seaman's grave.
 
The sub was inspected, its cargo defined and the US navy sent a destroyer to
cart the sub to a US port as fast as they could. A team from Los Alamos was
flown-in and the same day of entering port the uranium was unloaded and shipped
to a plant for immediate further enrichment.
 
It was going to be used mixed with other uranium for the bomb which destroyed
Hiroshima. Ironony of the story therefore is that German uranium helped the
Allies to finish-off the Japanese.

Actually, there were not that many sources for uranium at all, it was not even
a secret.

The Canadian uranium was not used for the first three bombs, it came only into
play later. Neither was uranium mined in the US.
 
Only the Belgian-Congo 'Gecamines' produced uranium plus what was recovered
from U-234 was used.
