Search warrants aren't needed to make it legal. Search warrants are only
needed if the intelligence gathering takes longer than 72 hours. If, what
they determine to be illegal can be proven by present and perceived future
evidence, the search warrant is asked for to make it legal in court.

Warrants aren't needed until 72 hours into an investigation. If the
evidence produced to present is an indication of a violation of law, then
a search warrant is asked for.

the claim that they voted for the war, then recanted when that made them
look bad in their party.
