Yes. I've always thought that this echo was:


A major component of FidoNet is its newsletter, FidoNews. I started it in 1984;
as of this writing it's in its 15th year, and has been published weekly from
the start. It is the meta-network, a means to discuss the network itself. The
publication policy is (or at least was) "we publish anything" from FidoNet
members (and sheesh, it sure has). It's not always pretty to look at, but like
any household argument it's essential to the operation of the network. It was
distributed to every FidoNet site (up to 35,000 copies per week), and read by
probably twice as many people. I was the editor for two periods, 1984-1985 and
1991-1993.

I do not have info on the creation of this echo, sorry.
The Moderator has traditionally been the editor of the Snooze. He/she should
not be needed.

But what I do regret the most is that for over eleven years now every time one
comes along to have a look round here one has to wade through literally tons of
posts half of which are people abusing and insulting each other.

For me, the most public of all echoes and the one by which millions of people
round the globe have judged FidoNet all these years, has most of the time been
a place where insult is the norm :(
Not some times, mind you. Some reasonable guys are not here with us anymore :(

As a node I cannot refer interested points here to find out about things in
Fido or Fidonews :(  The echo has long been notorious for the bad language and
lack of respect for others.


You guys, the habitual writers should think of young people interested in what
Fido _is_. What example are you giving and setting?
Would you give this to read to your sons and daughters? Parents? Grandsons?
You have plenty of restricted echoes in which to ... whatever it is that you do
or think you do.
Do you have to do it here where any person tired of inet will come to see why
Fido is still considered a quality mail network?


I do not mean the criticism, believe me. You can go on if you like, in
restricted echoes, or better still, by Net Mail.
Some are still trying to atract points and users. This is the place to get a
feeling of the net after reading the Fidonews.
What would you think of it if you were new to Fido?   ...
