      Actually, a little bit of research, and consultation with a local
copyright lawyer told me that mikey's claim to copyright as he tells it in the
echo is ONLY valid in his own country.  NO WHERE ELSE!!

      Anywhere else, he has the same copyright that anyone else does, in that
they are his words, and nobody else can claim those words as their own.  The
whole publication is also copyrighted under what's called a compilation
copyright by the editor, and since it's a Fidonet publication, by Fidonet as a
whole.  Since the rules of Fidonet encourage as wide a distribution as
possible, there are absolutely zero restrictions on anyone making Fidonews
available in whatever means possible.  As long as nothing is changed within the
distribution archive without further documenting the changes.

      That's it.  If mikey objects, he is most welcome to file suit against
me, but it'd have to be in a Canadian court, under Canadian rules and law since
I'm a Canadian, I live in Canada, my server is registered by the Canadian
Internet Registration Authority, and it physically resides in Canada. I'm
advised that he'd better plan on starting with $200,000.00C and budget for a
lot more should he try anything here.  Sure, he could try something over there,
but as I have no plans to ever visit Holland, it would be a complete waste of
time on mikey's part.


      Right now I have no desire to play anyone's games, I'm just interested
in distributing Fidonet traffic to anyone who wishes it, and since Bjerk is the
Fidonews editor (for now, anyway), that's where the source comes from. Anyone,
anywhere, wishing a feed is most welcome to contact me.


      Although it greatly amuses me that bjerk is an outspoken member of the
so-called pirate party, mikey claims to agree with their principles, which
include the right to redistribute copywritten material freely, yet mikey does
what he can to inhibit Fidonews distribution.  It could be even more funny,
except it's getting old and tiresome.

      Anyhow, that's my viewpoint, and I have no plans to further discuss the
matter in public.
