Well... Yes, you claim you had a bad experience, and that's a shame...

What organization were you affiliated with? Although I've heard the name of 
several European organizations, I'm not really familiar with any of them. 
Of course, "here" it's the AKC (American Kennel Club).  There is a breeder 
in NZ with some wonderful whippets -- and I've considered mating one of 
theirs to one of mine, but I don't have a professional facility setup yet 
and it's just too messy to do in the house.

That's too bad.   I also know many breeders of many different breeds like 
that who are extrinsically motivated by money.  They do an extreme 
dis-service to the breed.  As you know there are many breed specific clubs 
one can belong to and one of the Whippet clubs monitors the (registered) 
whippet population (world wide) and provides advise and feedback to the 
breeders.  This helps all of the Whippet breeders monitor the population and 
helps us ensure that we don't over populate.

Ahhh.. That's too bad.....  I associate with people who have been in and out 
of the ring for 40 and 50 years.  They provide great advise, monitor the 
judges and help me pick shows they believe will help me accomplish my goal.

If you believe you were bested by a flop, do you not have recourse in your 
organization?  If that were to happen here, we do - through the AKC. If it's 
a marginal call, it's the judges call, but if it's blatant -- then we can 
call it.  I once saw a lady show a whippet, and while showing (she was 
drunk), she fell into the line spawl.  Her dog was too tall, had an 
overbite, and was grossly overweight.  It shouldn't have been allowed to 
show!  The judge gave her the win -- then my handler and 4 others protested 
and called it.  The judge's call was re-evaluated on the spot by 3 other 
attending judges, and the show was a draw.  We all got our money back for 
the show, and that judge later had his AKC credentials pulled.  I know of 
several instances like that, and it helps keep standing judges honest.

Not with everyone....  That's one of the things I like about this breed --  
it's small enough to still be enjoyable because 'most' (not all) but must of 
the breeders are intrinsically motivated.
