It did for the Russians on the eastern front.

It did for the Americans on D-day.

You all are looking at Vietnam from the perspective of the way it was fought,
not from the way it should have been fought. LBJ micro-managed the war,
unprecedented prior and since. Janis will want to blame it all on Nixon, he
didnt do so well either, granted the war had been in full bloom for over 3
years prior to taking office. The anti-war movement was way too strong for him
to have attempted to turn the tide, therefore he escalated the bombing and a
escursion into Cambodia to try to better our position for a cease fire.

All of us are armchair quarterbacking, some of us say it could have been won,
others say no way. Reality favors the no way because that is how it really
turned out. But you already know of the reasons why.

We can armchair quarterback lots of things. a sore spot for you is WW2, you
resent hearing some of us Americans ring our own chimes as to our contribution
in liberating Europe, you counter by saying you all would have eventually
defeated Germany on your own. Perhaps, but reality dictates that:

Without D-day, the Germans would not have been distracted enough, therefore
could have held off the Russians..

Without the Russians, D-day might have failed.

Without either, your country could have been occupied for alot longer, perhaps
even now with the victor redrawing maps, as a Euro, you know all to well how
the 2 world wars have redrawn your maps.

Of course without ww2, there may not have been a cold war to speak of, no hated
USA as you know it.. <wink>

Just think Herman "what if"..
