Hello Lee,

You've been shown 'proof' that you have been mistaken, yet you refuse to 
acknowledge your error.  You remind me of MvD.  Since you refuse to swallow 
the truth, there really isn't any point in your replying... We will agree to 
disagree... I will believe the truth, and you will continue to believe 
whatever fairy tales you read on the internet.

The Persian Gulf IS the Persian Gulf.  Perhaps I can convince my Uncle to 
come into this echo (he's pretty old, but has all his marbles :) and you can 
refute him yourself.  Naval Archives (which you have been provided -- with a 
link to an Official Navy Website) tell you the MIDWAY was in the gulf, yet 
you deny it.  You can't be in the "region of the Gulf" (at least on an 
Aircraft Carrier) and not be "in the Gulf"...  Check your geography... <g> 
Your refute was really pretty funny...

Lee, I've been to the Gulf and PERSONALLY transited the SOH 6 times.  I know 
how big it is...  You know what I noticed first?  The distant large cliffs 
of Iran.. Huge desolate things.  After one enters the Gulf, it's the 
*smell*, the smell of waste or putrid sweat.  I commented on that to a close 
friend who reminded me that we were surrounded by millions and millions of 
people that take an annual shower every June.  There are nice parts of the 
Gulf though..  While in Dubai I visited a really nice resort.  I was 
surprised to see beautiful white beaches with crystal clear water.  Well, 
I'm off track here trying to educate you....

Nope.. It's ashame you take the word of Joe Blow over official archives. 
What you "want" to believe and what is "truth" defines your attitude and 
fortitude.

Uhhhmm... Recheck your history there Mate...

A carrier at speed has a smaller draft than a Cruiser.  Were you aware of 
that?  It's wasn't really the draft nor the size of the aircraft carrier 
that bothered Carter nor Regan, it was putting a hugely expensive piece of 
military hardware in the middle of an area where they were surrounded by 
millions of people who have sworn an allegiance to advocate the destruction 
of western civilization.
