RC>> Same individual claims to have gotten a BIOS virus, both this and
RC>> above on his blazingly fast dial up internet connection.
ml> there were a few nasty critters out several year back that would go
ml> for any flashrom they could find... they were out and about before the
ml> internet came along... please don't be blinded by the false impression
ml> that one has to have a fast or large pipe to the internet to get
ml> infected by some critter... they don't care what size pipe you have...
ml> all they care about is if they can get in and do anything once they
ml> gain entry...
RC> You arent telling me anything I dont know,
then why come down on him for discovering that he had them? why bust his chops
on everything he says or does? it just doesn't make sense and becomes no more
than schoolyard bullying :(
RC> what you arent listenning to is this fella is a hypochondriac
RC> braggart.
i see you saying that but i don't get the same from him... so what if he
trumpets some accolades... we've all done stuff like that from time to time...
RC> He has cried wolf way too many times to be believed.
how can it be crying wolf when it was true?
RC>> In addition to boasts of physical heroism, nah, too big of a
RC>> credibility problem.
ml> how about doing some research and at least see if things like he has
ml> spoken of are even possible and/or recorded? when i was in IT years
ml> ago, i personally delt with several BIOS infections... i also had
ml> occasion to fix one guy's *nix box that had gotten rooted and set up
ml> as a sound server... this was, gee, 8=10 years ago at least...
RC> I am not the only one to disbelieve him, even Maurice disbelieves
RC> that tall tale,
can't tell that from maurice's posts...
RC> Wayne is a professional sympathy seeker..
"professional" would seem to indicate monetary gains... i don't see that
happening... do you?
RC> He has claimed to have had a stroke, boldly professes to have not
RC> had emergency or follow up care, much less it officially diagnosed.
RC> consistently complains about spinal injury that supposedly impedes
RC> his mobility and is the cause for his disability status. I have
RC> researched strokes, especially since my father had suffered one,
RC> and I am well aware of all the issues that a stroke can bring,
RC> including mobility and mental. Where Wayne has a existing spinal
RC> deficit that a stroke wont help, my father prior to stroke also has
RC> 2 artificial hips that his stroke didnt help.
RC> I simply dont believe someone whom says he has gone through things
RC> and doesnt seek to confirm it. He wants you to feel sorry for him.
ml> good grief, the guy's learning something and he's proud of it... so
ml> what? aren't you proud of yourself when you learn something on your
ml> own?
RC> I dont parlay new found knowledge into becoming a expert at it.
i had a friend who taught himself BASIC without any manuals... he carried
similar attitude and refused to believe what was explained to him when he asked
questions of myself and others who had already been there and done that... he
came around eventually...
RC> I dont enter into political debate with someone and then when I
RC> lose, I start spouting off this unrelated to the debate "new found
RC> knowledge" as Wayne has done.
that's nothing more than the similar oneupmanship that takes place in numerous
echos each and every day... in most cases, though, it has degraaded to nothing
more than schoolyard bullying and retaliation... it is rather pathetic that
once nice and friendly folk have fallen into such a quagmire...
RC> I think it was Iraq that Wayne was discussing with someone, then
RC> the someone replied to him that shot his points down, Waynes
RC> response was to brag about his usage of perl, even to spell out the
RC> acronym perl stands for. The whole debate unrelated to computers,
RC> programming et al.
so?
RC> Wayne takes his new found knowledge and parlays it into a "my dad
RC> can beat up your dad" mentality.
i would too if everytime i turned around i had someone negating everything i
said and hounding me with negativity all the time...
RC> Remember Cliff Claven??
yeah... so?
ml> don't you develop your own ideas on how a process works before
ml> you actually find out how it works? most folk do... i've had more than
ml> one friend over the years that has taught themselves some type of
ml> scripting and had a whole world open up to them... then they learned a
ml> bit more and a whole other world opened up... some folk can grasp
ml> certain concepts much faster and easier than others... some are so
ml> right brained that they couldn't code their way out of a wet paper bag
ml> with
RC> You aint telling me nothing new, I dont brag about what I know, I
RC> have become more proficient on writing web pages and the ilk, but
RC> there is always someone who knows more, I certainly wont ignorantly
RC> proclaim a coding style as ignorant when I know nothing of what I
RC> speak of. Wayne professed the condition "if" as inelegant, yet
RC> failed to look into the source code of the lnux kernel or his own
RC> mail reader to see s shitload of it.
ignorance can be corrected... just look at all the C coders who look down their
noses at PASCAL and BASIC coders... look at all the php, java, python, and ruby
coders who look down their noses at anyone that code a webpage without using
some templated editor... look at all the SQL coders that look down their noses
at the dBase and clipper coders... i could go on and name off many more...
RC> Here is the difference between you and Wayne..
RC> When you wrote your first program, script or batch file, you
RC> certainly did not profess yourself to be an expert, whereas Wayne
RC> did.
hehehe... we won't tell that to the insurance agency that paid me $500+ to
create a menuing program for them written in BASICA (interpreted BASIC, no
compiler) to handle the loading and execution of floppies containing the
programs and tools they used to work up their quotes from different insurance
companies ;)
RC> No one likes a braggart, but certainly not a uninformed braggart.
true for the most part...
RC> Its very hard to take someone seriously whom does the things
RC> mentioned above plus all the tall tales of physical heroism like
RC> lifting 657 pounds of steel stock unassisted or carrying a 70's
RC> FORD Torino for 20 feet in the air with 6 guys on sugar sand.
RC> or
RC> Professing to have smoked crack, being 6 years old and remembering
RC> Nikita Kruschevs shoe slapping speech at the UN.
yeah, whatever... i remember things from my youth that my parents had no idea i
even knew about because i never talked about them... that's nothing new... the
mind works in mysterious ways and can bring forth hitherto unknown memories
from certain stimuli... nothing knew about that...
ml> until you walk in a mans shoes, you can't even begin to understand
ml> that man...
RC> I know a liar, braggart, hypochdriac when I see one.
ok... now why is he like that? you can't know without walking in those
aforementioned shoes... i suspect it may be due to run-ins with mean and ugly
folk i his youth that just wouldn't let him alone and had to keep pushing and
pushing and pushing like we see being done in here and other echos... i can't
say that i blame him, having been in similar situations many times in my
life... IIRC, he is of large stature and always has been... seems that many
think that large people are the first ones you take down... it doesn't work
when a large person is meek and mild instead of being of the conan style... i
was the smallest and youngest in all my classes... i bested my classmates who
always attacked me by getting better grades with little to no effort while
sleeping in class... i bested them by being able to read many subjects and then
answer many of their questions when asked... many see that and try to call me a
"know it all" when in reality, all i've done is to retain an inordinate amount
of knowledge and information on a wide range of topics that interest me... many
of those that call me that are extremely poor in their ability to gather said
knowledge... in fact, personal experience has shown that most of them don't
like to read if they even can...
conversly, without walking in your shoes, i can't fathom why you and others
hound him like this... it just doesn't make sense... no one is any better than
anyone else and everyone has their own faults...
