============================

bk>>>>>> There are more welfare recipients in rural areas than in the
 bk>>>>>> ghettos,

RW>>>>> Nahhhh, rural people tend to work for a living, if they're
 RW>>>>> able.

bk>>>> If they can find jobs. Farm jobs are a much smaller portion of
bk>>>> the job market than they used to be.

RW>>> In that case, they should come to town...I see 'Help
RW>>> Wanted' signs everywhere I go.

bk>> Which are likely minimum wage.

RW> Even that is too high for unskilled labor.

Which proves you are not a conservative. No real conservative
would try to say what anyone should earn.

And no, it's not. Nor for a job that needs to be done. The law
of supply and demand takes no note of skill level.

And any major city would collapse sooner from lack of sanitation
 workers than medical workers.

bk>> And those come and go.

RW> They're new ones most of the time. Especially around here.
RW> This is a waterpark community that relys on tourist money
RW> to survive. Students from Texas University in San Marcos,
RW> just up the freeway come here to recreate, not work.

Most students I know also work.

bk>> Moving to find a job is an old story.

 ...

bk>> 30 years ago it was to Texas.

 RW> I don't remember that.

bk>> When they got there they found the jobs were taken, and they had no
 bk>> family support structure.

RW> There was a guy who worked under me in San Diego. He told
RW> me plenty of stories about traveling and working for a
RW> living. He and his wife spent months living in their
RW> camper, while he worked, here and there. He said that
RW> sometimes, his sole survival was that they had kept some
RW> property in Indiana, where they built a cabin. If they had
RW> to, they could always find a way to get there. I thought he
RW> was very interesting to listen to, as he had worked from
RW> east coast to west, Florida to Washington and Pennsylvania
RW> to San Diego. Of course, he had skills that helped him find
 RW> work.

Yet, even so, by your account, even that wasn't always enough.
He had that property. Without it what would he have done?

bk>> There are jobs today, next week or next month or next year they
bk>> won't be there. We need more stability in our job market.

RW> With the unempolyment rate at less than 4.5%, I'd say it

The unemployment rate is still not as low as the minimum under
Clinton. However, the intersting thing is how the unemployment
 stats work out.

Just redownloaded the labor stats from the Dept of Labor.

The workforce size has been increasing steadily, but suddenly
it's down by 2 mill from July of a year before. The number
employed has been going down while the unemployment rate has
been going down. The labor force participation rate is down, and
the percent of the population employed is down.

To make the unemployment rate go down all they have to do is
stop counting some of the unemployed. Every so often they change
the way they count the population, to make it more accurate
supposedly. This administration has changed it every year
starting in 2003. Oh, and the number of people *NOT* in the
work force who want a job now is up. How do they get *NOT* in
the work force if they are looking for a job now?

IOW, I suspect they are cooking the books.

RW> was stable enough. Factories around here are always looking
RW> for skilled labor. One factory south of here is always
 RW> looking for chicken pluckers.

Maybe INS has run off their illegals.

The only reason an employer is not finding employees is they
 don't pay enough.

bk>>>> And there are more welfare recipients in rural areas than inner
 bk>>>> cities.

 RW>>> Not possible.

bk>> Yeah, poverty is endemic to rural communities.

RW> Unlike the big city, where it's epidemic.

Whatever you may think of big cities, a fairly small portion of
the population of this country lives in big cities.

bk>>>> Even the 9th ward of New Orleans, the poorest part, was about
 bk>>>> 90% working poor.

 bk>>>> See the tagline.

RW>>> Fuck your tagline, it's merely more LLWW lies.

 bk>> Look it up.

RW> Put it into context with a message and I may. Taglines are
RW> ignored and deleted along with the rest of the crap sent
RW> along by the BBS you're using.

 Birth rates for unmarried women,1961-2001. Black:down 30.5%
 White:up 299%.

How much context do you need. In 1941, the earliest stats I have
on this, the birth rates for unmarried women started up. In 1961
they peaked for black women, but kept going up for white women.
Since then they have dropped 30.5% for black women. They were up
almost 300% for white women in 2001. Before WW2 black women had
a rate 10 times as high as for white women. Now it's closing. If
it keeps up they will cross, probably in the life time of this
 generation.

Now, here's a real kicker for you, if you want context. Look
around at the mall. How many white women do you see with black
children? Remember, with 6 times as many whites as blacks, 1% of
white women equals in number 6% of black women.

I've never seen any stats on births by white mothers and black
 fathers.

Hmmm... I may just hunt for that. Eventually.
