I didn't say it wasn't available. Verizon Wireless has the service and
they sell a card for your laptop so you can have the internet anywhere
where there is wireless telephone service.

MvdV> It may take a while, but eventually broadband will be available
MvdV> everywhere in the US. One way or another.

Eventually, but never everywhere.

RW>> If you remember Ruth Argust and her friend Jerry, they lived so far
RW>> off the beaten track, they had telephone service by radio.

MvdV> I am a HAM. I know what radio is.

I have a four year old grandson, he knows what radio is too. He doesn't
know that there are remote areas of America where telephone service is
aquired only by radio.

MvdV>>> Here in The Netherlands broadband penetration is 80% and KPN
MvdV>>> says it is no longer profitable the maintain the infrastructure
MvdV>>> for dial up. And so it will be discontinued.

 RW>> That's Holland, not America.

MvdV> No, it is The Netherlands, not Holland.

The dutch cities of Holland, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Leiden, Alkmaar, The
Hague, Delft and Haarlem are the country.

Many Europeans heard of the Dutch United Provinces first as "Holland"
rather than "Republic of the Seven United Provinces of the Netherlands".

This usage, Holland, continues to this day.

The Netherlands was merely an after thought.

MvdV>>> The same is happening in Belgium and it will happen in other
MvdV>>> countries as well. Including the US. It will just take more time.

 RW>> That's Europe, not America.

MvdV> America will follow. Sooner or later.

More likely, later.

RW>>>> Mulitple banks of modems in multiple banks of computers.

MvdV>>> Which will be scaled down when demand drops.

RW>> Long after you and I are gone.

MvdV> Baring accidents, you and I will live to see it.

Maybe.

MvdV>>>>> Modem over POTS is a dead end street.

RW>>>> In Z2...it sells very well here.

 MvdV>>> For now....

RW>> I'll probably never see the end of it.

MvdV> Five years ago you already claimed not to have a modem any more.

Two years ago, I bought a Zoom at a swap meet. It was new, in the box.

MvdV> If that was true, you already saw the end of modem over POTS five
 MvdV> years ago.

Five years ago, I had no need for a modem. Five years later, I have one
again.
