I honestly did think he was Republican based on some of the things he's said,
which is why I was surprised.  However, if he says he's independent, I'm not
going to question him on it, since that becomes a bit more personal.
 
I will say however that he's agreed with me on some things more recently which
did surprise me, where as a run-of-the-mill Republican would have probably
still debated just for the sake of defending another Republican, so he gets the
benefit of the doubt from me I suppose.

I've certainly expressed Democratic bias though, and don't really consider
myself truly independent anyway.  So people are welcome to apply the standard
derogatory liberal labels! ;)

McCain was generally fine in my book till he started the 'ol typical liberal
bashing. I don't agree with him on the war or certain other things, but once
they take it to that level, it's just stupid.  When you're trying to become
president, argue with their opinions or plans, but don't try to insult them
simply based on their party.

Barack is likely just trying to appeal to black folk with stuff like that.  I
don't know why he's bothering though, since he's probably got that in the bag
just because of his color.  Some people say it's racist to say that, but those
sorts of people probably haven't had a lot of experience with black people in
general.  The more educated black folks might put serious consideration into
the matter, but for the rest who don't understand or care about the issues,
they'll likely pick their own kind.  I mean it's not uncommon at all to see
large groups of either all white or all black people hanging out in public, no
matter where you live.  So I'm not sure why it's hard to believe that a similar
thing would apply to picking lawmakers.
 
And who can blame them for that, really.  If I were in a country of all African
folk and a white fellow ran, I honestly might give him more consideration just
because he could likely better support my own interests. Race matters much more
to those in any minority.
 
But anyway, Americans and their extreme sensitivity to race is a whole 'nother
can of worms, which I won't even get into any further here.

Anti-abortionists here are generally conservatives/Republicans.  I've never
personally known a Democrat who opposed abortion, though I'm sure some do.  I
just think there are many circumstances where a woman should have the option to
abort a pregnancy, from rape, to health concerns (for both mother and child),
incest, age, etc. I don't agree with the late-term abortions though unless
possibly for a serious medical reason.  But for the most part, it should be the
woman's choice, not someone else trying to push opinion and religious views on
another individual.  That's usually wrong no matter what the issue.

We'll apparently just keep borrowing it until the dollar isn't worth the paper
it's printed on.

Former Republican congressman Mark Foley was involved in a scandal involving
him sending sexually explicit messages and emails to teenage boys.  There were
also accusations from boys who said they had actually had relations with him. 
He later resigned. But Fox News "accidently" labeled him as a Democrat. At
another point, Brit Hume of the channel tried to compare Foley's attempts at
pedophilia to Bill Clinton and the Monica Lewinksy thing, as if that's
possible.  This whole scandal later included several other Republicans accused
of similar behavior, but you didn't see Fox going out of their way to cover it.
 
 
In a completely different event, Larry Craig, a former Republican senator, was
caught playing footsy with a (unknown to him at the time) police officer in the
adjoining bathroom stall, trying to initiate homosexual activity with him. He
was arrested for it, and later resigned.
 
According to Media Matters (which some people refuse to look at for liberal
bias, but if these numbers weren't confirmable I doubt they'd have posted'em):
 
"From 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET on August 27, Fox News devoted only 3 minutes and 47
seconds to segments discussing Sen. Larry Craig's lewd-conduct arrest. By
contrast, MSNBC aired 8 minutes and 26 seconds of coverage on the story, while
CNN aired 20 minutes and 38 seconds."

That's just a couple examples of Fox News "reporting" the news.

Probably would have done the usual of telling how awesome the war is going, or
continue to focus on Spitzer, I assume.
